Job Description:

Seeking an electro-optic engineer who is creative, analytical, and can provide sound technical leadership to electrical, optical, and systems design tasks. You will take a lead role in developing proposals, technologies, products, and business for electro-optic sensor and imaging systems. In this role you will work on multiple projects covering the range of the company's technology and product areas, and act as a principal investigator in areas of new research and development. This position will work on projects end-to-end, from proposal and design, through prototyping and analysis, to product development and manufacturing. You will be a key part of a small, multi-disciplined team.

The ideal candidate is a multi-disciplinary engineer/scientist who can apply creative design principles in a broad range of technologies; optical instrument design, spectroscopy systems, laser ranging systems, motion systems, and optical sensors, along with their associated control hardware, algorithms and data analysis. The candidate should have excellent communication skills and a track record of writing winning technical proposals, reports, and papers.

Additionally, the candidate should have experience in 2 or more of the following areas:

  • Laboratory experience with spectroscopy, hyperspectral imaging, infrared cameras, optics, electronic test equipment, lasers, and/or alignment on an optical bench set-up.
  • Optical instrument systems design in Zemax.
  • Image analysis and scripting using Python or MATLAB. Experience with image tools ImageJ and ENVI, as well as machine vision libraries OpenCV and ScikitImage is beneficial.
  • Strong mathematical skills, including linear algebra and first-order system modeling in MATLAB, Excel, etc.
  • Technical writing of proposals, reports, and papers.
  • Creation and review of mechanical design models using SolidWorks or Autodesk.
  • Embedded programming for microcontrollers (Arduino, Raspberry Pi).
  • Analog circuit design with SPICE simulation is a plus.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in EE, Physics, or related discipline.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and debugging electronics or optical systems.
  • Must have excellent writing skills.
  • Must be highly self-motivated and enjoy working in a small, fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred 2+ years (or graduate level) experience with electro-optics, optics, physics, imaging, or electrical design.
