REPORTS TO: New Product Development Manager POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the development, documentation, testing and troubleshooting of electronic assemblies. Assists in the fabrication of both prototype and production electrical/electronic assemblies. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: •Updates documentation (including schematics, drawings, work instructions, or related instructions) to provide work instructions for electrical/electronic assemblers based on senior technician instructions. •Ensures all documentation is electronically filed and maintained following the company's standard engineering protocols (Vault/EPDM). •Communicates any discrepancies between sample(s) and Customer documentation directly with Customer regarding clarifications or deviation requirements. •Coordinates with Purchasing Group on any electrical/electronic assembly/wiring/harness/connectors needed per customer requirements. •Validates purchased components meet Customer specifications and reports issues to Purchasing for resolution using the Company's discrepant material (DMR) procedures. •Creates initial prototypes of an electronic assembly using a sample or schematic (detailed or rough) and tests electrical/electronic assemblies for functionality under supervision of a senior technician. •Provides necessary written or visual documentation (work instructions, drawings or related materials) and instructions to electrical assemblers regarding processes to follow for new or repeat assembly production. •Continues to provide hands-on fabrication assistance once electrical/electronic assemblies reach production stage and reviews with production operators and inspectors the proper assembly and test methods. •Works alongside other senior technicians to troubleshoot defective assemblies for root cause and assists in creating repair procedures. Potentially trains electrical/electronic assemblers in the repair of defective assemblies. •Recommends changes to procedures to reduce waste and to increase assembly productivity and improve quality. •Occasionally works as assembler/operator to assist the production in meeting prototype and/or production sales orders; as needed and directed by New Product Development Manager. •Communicates with coworkers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate job activities. •Follows all safety procedures and wears safety equipment or apparel, as required. •Performs all job functions to meet acceptable quality and performance standards. •Ensures that the work area is maintained in a clean and orderly manner including machines and tooling. The employee may be required to follow other job-related instructions and duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Mechanical aptitude and hands-on working experience in a fabrication/production environment is needed. Understanding of basic electronics is desired. Skills in CAD software (SolidWorks/AutoCAD) is a plus. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee is required to: •Exert 25 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or •Exert 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently. VISUAL ACUITY: Accommodation as required for reading documents, inspection instruments and evaluating parts. HEARING ABILITY: Ability to communicate with others and accommodation as required to monitor radio, telephone and paging systems and as needed to monitor machine sound to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action. WORKING CONDITIONS: Typical metal manufacturing environment with exposure to powder coat facility.
