They must be able to command a deep knowledge of each individual learner and an ability to anticipate their aspirations, needs, and questions. Classroom teaching. The ideal candidate possesses an understanding of the cognitive, social, and emotional development of elementary aged children. He or she must be versed in educational approaches that position the student as the driver of their own learning and in curricula based on student inquiry. He or she will be able to select and/or design rich curriculum content and materials, with depth of learning as the ultimate goal; seek opportunities to integrate special subjects into the homeroom curriculum; use diverse approaches to content to facilitate student access; and deliver the right degree of challenge to each learner. He or she will assess each learner continuously and respond nimbly to assessment results in his or her planning and teaching.Professional growth. The ideal candidate is a perpetual learner and models this explicitly for the students. He or she is open to trying new approaches to curriculum, pedagogy, and strategies for meeting student needs; takes a receptive stance to feedback from colleagues; engages in thoughtful risk-taking in his or her teaching; and actively digs into workshops and discussions at faculty meetings and professional development events. He or she habitually reflects on his or her own teaching and the learning of each child.Community. The ideal candidate brings a keen enthusiasm for the work; participates wholeheartedly in the life of the faculty; and conducts himself or herself professionally and warmly. - Teach lessons in Math, Writing, Reading and Social Studies
- Plan and work collegially with colleagues
- Conduct family conferences and write narrative report cards twice per year
- Attend all faculty meetings; participate in one task force each year
- Meet with administration about student growth and curriculum
- Fulfill playground and lunchroom duties
Qualifications:
- Demonstrate flexibility, adaptability and thoughtfulness in both lesson planning and in relating to students and families
- A demonstrable dedication to diversity, equity and inclusion in curriculum planning and work with students and families
- Master's degree required
- 2-3 years lead teaching experience required
- A knowledge of, and respect for, Montessori philosophy is highly valued but not required.
