Jennings Elementary International Education Magnet School REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent of Schools or designee SUPERVISES: Certified and non-certified staff assigned to the school, as assigned TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month administrative position. Other terms as set by the Board of Education in accordance with the New London Administrators' Education Association contract. PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Jennings Elementary School Principal will direct and supervise school operations and academic programs in accordance with the policies and regulations established by the Board of Education, as well as the Common Core of Leading (CCL) standards aligned to educational administration. They shall exercise bold leadership in creating and managing a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment where all students excel, staff are empowered, and all are held accountable. The Principal will create an engaged community of staff, students, families, and community partners who share the vision of high performance and achievement-oriented collaboration. They will facilitate work, leading to an increase in student outcomes and the creation of a united, positive culture of achievement. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Connecticut Intermediate Administrative/Supervisory Certificate (092)
- A valid CT Teaching Certificate
- At least five (5) years of successful experience as a classroom teacher
- At least three (3) years of successful experience in an administrative role
- Knowledge of Magnet School programs, implementation, marketing, and administration
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working and leading in a turn-a-round school
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) or multilingual highly desirable
- Special Education certification and experience preferred
- Demonstrated skill and experience in closing achievement gaps
- Strong pedagogical knowledge and understanding of instructional practices
- Experience working with culturally, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse populations
- Experience and strength in building, maintaining, and refining systems
- Knowledge of inquiry-based teaching and learning
- Strong, ethical decision making and student-focused leadership philosophy
