Job Description:
PRIMARY FUNCTION:Under direct supervision of the Site Administrator or designee, the Elementary Teacher plans, prepares, and implements lesson plans for students in accordance with California Arts Standards for Public Schools.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop knowledge and skills essential to teach students in the grade assigned effectively;
  • provide a broad range of teaching strategies and methodologies to deliver VAPA instruction to meet the needs of students;
  • work collaboratively with teachers to develop and implement integrated VAPA lessons;
  • provide instructional support related to VAPA for students;
  • maintain a safe and positive environment conducive to learning;
  • promote and encourage a positive learning environment;
  • plan and prepare lessons;
  • establish standards of student performance;
  • work collaboratively with other staff;
  • develop and implement lesson plans consistent with district policy and guidelines;
  • identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems;
  • maintain professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities;
  • develop a positive interpersonal relationship with students, staff, and community;
  • exhibit proper conduct in the handling of student emergencies;
  • abide by professional ethics standards established by Board Policies, Professional Teaching Standards, and California Arts Standards in Public Schools;
  • may research and make recommendations for district purchases related to music, theater, art, and VAPA;
  • may participate in the development and implementation of district and school VAPA curricula.
WORK YEAR:
  • 184 days per year (185 days per year for unit members new to the district)
  • 7.5-hour contractual day
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS-QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of:
  • Standard instructional methods and techniques;
  • teaching principles and practices;
  • pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations;
  • assessment techniques to identify and resolve student problems;
  • skilled in presentation delivery techniques

Physical Demands:

  • requires sitting or standing for extended periods of time;
  • requires ability to see printed material, computer screen for extended periods of time.

DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE TO:Site Administrator or designee.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Valid and appropriate California Teaching Credential authorizing art
  • CLAD, BCLAD or Certification or other English Learner Authorization.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license

    EXTRA DUTY COMPENSATION:
    • Eligible for any applicable stipends found in Appendix B.
    • Extra Duty Pay (with mutual consent of the Site Administrator or designee) found in Appendix B which includes , but is not limited to working additional hours/days beyond 184 (if mutually agreed upon between the Dance Teacher and Site Administrator or designee), etc.
    BARGAINING UNIT STATUS:Nuview District Teachers' AssociationTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Salary and work year are governed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Nuview District Teachers' Association. If this position is filled by a unit member who currently works in the district, the unit member realizes that if this position is not offered in a subsequent school year, the unit member will be assigned to another position in the district for which they are qualified. The district cannot guarantee that the unit member will move back into the same position or be at the same site if they accept the role of VAPA Teacher. The VAPA Teacher shall not be selected and assigned as administrative designee (if applicable) on a more frequent basis than any other qualified unit member that is on the annual Principal's list of Administrative Designees.EVALUATION:Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Nuview District Teachers' Association and the Nuview School District and the Board Policy on Evaluation of Certificated Personnel.Requirements / QualificationsAll applicants must provide the following items as soon as possible to be considered: •Submit a completed Nuview Union School District application.
