Example of Duties: Management:
- Plans, organizes, and directs services for a Division of Building Safety program
- Recommends, develops, and implements program policies and procedures
- Selects staff and evaluates performance
- Trains staff on program enforcement and technical program interpretation and application
- Monitors, evaluates, and adjusts division programs to meet changing needs
- Consults with and advises architects, engineers, attorneys, contractors, local and state officials, and the public on interpretation of program code, policies, and/or procedures
- Prepares and presents training for local building officials and other interested parties
- Serves as an expert witness
- Makes formal presentations to professional groups on various division programs and activities
- Serves as the Division representative for program and committees concerned with code, laws, and regulatory issues and problems
Program Expert:
- Conducts highly complex inspections on conveyances on a statewide basis that involves new technology
- Recommends and develops program policies and procedures for program supervisors to use in implementing their programs
- Serves as the technical code expert in designated program area
- Participates in regional and national level industry and code meetings
- Negotiates agreements with industry in situations that are sensitive and may affect human health, quality of life, and/or the economic wellbeing of the construction industry
- Assesses needs and provides training
- Makes presentations to the legislature, boards, local government officials, and trade and special interest groups
- Researches innovations in new technologies, materials, and practices and assesses compatibility with prevailing codes and business practices
- Works with legal staff concerning construction methods and requirements
- May issue notices of correction or violation and provide testimony in court or administrative hearings
Minimum Qualifications: Experience: preparing oral reports and making public presentations; preparing written reports; operating a personal computer for business purposes; reading and interpreting and applying Idaho Code and trade-specific code. Possession of a valid driver's license.
Minimum Qualification Specialties: Experience inspecting facilities for compliance with one or more of the following codes or standards: International Building Code, Life Safety Code, OSHA Safety Standards, National Fire Codes/Standards, Elevator Safety Code Act, or the Idaho Safety and Health Standards; experience interpreting building diagrams, plans, and specifications. May be required to be a Qualified Elevator Inspector in accordance with Idaho Code Section 39-8603.Good knowledge of the School Safety Inspection standards. Experience supervising staff.
Preferred Qualifications: QEI certification with a minimum of 10 years of industry experience. Experience supervising remote staff Excellent soft skills
