SBH Health System -St. Barnabas Hospital is a 460+ bed, non-profit, acute care community hospital. We are a New York State designated Stroke Center, AIDS Center, and regional Trauma Center. Our campus is located in south-central Bronx, steps away from the renowned Arthur Avenue, Fordham University, Bronx Botanical Gardens and the Bronx Zoo. SBH is commuter-friendly, accessible from all areas within the New York City boroughs, Westchester County, Long Island, Hudson Valley, Connecticut and New Jersey. The Department of Psychiatry is seeking full-time, Emergency Department Psychologist to join the division. Mission: To provide the department with the diagnostic, therapeutic, and research expertise in the discipline of Clinical Psychology. Reports To: Director of Psychiatry, Chief of Psychology ED Responsibilities:
Provides professional/clinical services to patients in the Emergency Department to assess and address the need for psychiatric and/or substance abuse treatment, disposition and follow-up as appropriate. Performs a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, that includes assessing current psychiatric symptoms, past psychiatric history, evaluation of mental status, current and past history of violence, suicidal or self-harm behavior, substance use, level of functioning, health behaviors, trauma, and social and developmental history. Consults with the Attending Psychiatrist, as appropriate, for evaluation of findings of the psychiatric, and health screening in order to make prospective decisions about treatment. Manages psychiatric emergencies by determining the level of risk, and initiating and coordinating effective emergency care. Contacts the patient's outpatient psychiatrist (or clinician) to exchange clinical information Develops a differential diagnosis derived from the collection and synthesis of assessment data. Consults with other members of the interdisciplinary team to determine, evaluate, and plan immediate treatment interventions, goals/objectives. Provides debriefing to Emergency Department staff after critical incidents. Coordinates with risk management team and NYPD to facilitate psychiatric treatment of Emergency Department patients who are in custody. Additional assignments consistent with training and discipline, such as participation in departmental committees, as requested by the Director of Psychiatry. General Psychology Responsibilities: Provides supervision & teaching to staff, residents, interns, externs, & other students as needed or requested. Provides didactic lectures to staff, residents, interns, externs, & students. Attends & presents at Psychiatry/Psychology Grand Rounds & Departmental in-service. Additional assignments consistent with training and discipline, such as participation in departmental committees, as requested by the Director of Psychiatry. Qualifications: Education Required: Ph.D. or Psy.D.in Clinical/Counseling Psychology, from an APA accredited program. A one-year internship approved by the applicant's graduate program, and 3 years of post-licensure experience working with a severely mentally ill population. Knowledge & Skills: Knowledge of DSM 5. Knowledge of a variety of theoretical models for the treatment of patients with psychiatric illness & the ability to apply them. Knowledge of the OMH/Joint Commission regulations as they relate to Departments of Psychiatry Knowledge of charting requirements. Knowledge of supervisory approaches & the ability to guide and supervise residents, interns, externs, & students. License(s) Required: N.Y. State Psychologist license is required.
