Emergency Department TechnicianEmergency Department0.00 FTE, Minimum of 1 Shift Per MonthDays/Evenings/Nights, Hours between 7 am - 3 pm, 3 pm - 11 pm, or 11 pm - 7 amWeekends: YesHolidays: YesPosition Overview:The Emergency Department (ED) Technician is an integral part of the health care team who, under the direction of a professional nurse, assists in the delivery of patient care in the Emergency Department and other departments throughout Winona Health as required. The ED Technician primarily supports nursing functions as planned and delegated by the professional nurse or Emergency Department provider. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of a professional nurse or an ED provider, performs duties related to the care and comfort of our patients including, but not limited to; rooming of patients, bathing, feeding, ambulation, bed repositioning, toileting, personal cares, vital signs, basic wound care, splinting, first aid, assisting with application of cardiac monitor, blood glucose testing, crutch fitting and training, IV fluid preparation, IV insertion and removal, and patient rounding.
- Assists the professional nurse and ED provider with procedures including, but not limited to, set up for procedure, pelvic examinations, laceration repair, and foley catheter insertion.
- Obtains and puts away supplies to ensure quality and timely delivery of patient care. Delivers various items to the appropriate areas as needed. Ensures stocking of the ED is completed on each shift including stocking of dressing carts and the pediatric emergency cart. Also assists in the stocking and maintenance of organizational crash carts.
- Is responsible for the cleaning of department equipment, including but not limited to, the Glide scope, and maintaining the proper cleaning techniques in use and ED Technicians are trained.
- Is responsible for checking and maintaining oxygen tanks throughout the hospital.
- Is available by pager at all times and responds in a timely manner to pages. Responds to all pager codes and overhead codes, reports directly to the department and assists as needed.
- Prioritizes pages by keeping patient care needs at the center of their decisions. Part of the Code Team and must respond to all Code Blue pages.
- Is constantly vigilant to the safety needs of patients, taking necessary precautions as warranted and communicates concerns to the professional nurse in a timely manner.
- Reports any malfunctioning equipment promptly and removes from the patient care area to maintain a safe environment.
- Assists with patient registration, placing of orders, transfer documentation, and answering of phone calls as needed. Is trained and understands the role of the ED Health Unit Technician.
- Assists patients with a seamless transition from point of entry to point of service.
- Completes Central Supply duties after hours and on weekends for the hospital and assisted living facilities as necessary.

- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Basic Computer Skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook. Familiar with Patient Information Database (Cerner)
- Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant or EMT program
- Current CPR Certification
- Current in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
Preferred:
- Previous Certified Nursing Assistant or EMT experience is preferred
