Description
St. Croix Health is looking for a part-time (0.6 FTE) Emergency Department Technician to join our team! This position will work straight night shifts (7 pm - 7:30 am), every 3rd weekend and holiday.
Job Summary:
The Emergency Department Technician (EDT) is responsible for providing direct care to patients across the age spectrum at the directions of RNs and medical providers. EDTs will assist staff in specific procedures in the Emergency Department, assist in patient flow, transport, and comfort. Will keep the unit clean, orderly, and stocked. Assures timely cleaning and turnover of patient room and of equipment that must be prepared for reprocessing.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care
* Transports patients by wheelchair and patient cart
* Assists patients with ambulation and positioning using safe patient handling techniques
* Obtain vital signs and report abnormal vital signs to RN
* Informs RN of patient/family observations and/or concerns
* Promptly responds to patient call lights/requests
* Demonstrates concern for patient dignity, privacy and confidentiality
* Performs tasks with adaptations or modifications consistent with patients ages and developmental abilities
* Obtains ordered specimens from patient
* Transports specimens and blood products
* Demonstrates adherence to proper procedures
* Assists in resuscitation
* Assists nurses with patient care activities
* Communicate to RN patients needing immediate emergency care and intervention
* Perform daily living activities such as, toileting, bathing, and bed changes
2. Document in patient Electronic Medical Record
* Document patient care activities, procedures and cares provided
* Documentation is clear, concise, accurate and timely
* Validate vital signs
3. Maintains room/unit and supplies
* Restocks room, supplies and room carts
* Assists with patient room clean-up between patients
* Remove and replace outdated supplies
4. Quality control checks
* Inspect equipment throughout department within required timeline
* Reports discrepancies and/or malfunctions to RN or House Supervisor
5. Other duties
* Prefabricated splint application (ace wraps, cam boots, knee immobilizers, slings, etc)
* Wound irrigation and prep, suture tray set up
* Ensure room safety and safety watch
* Assist physician with procedures (suturing, central line, chest tube, etc)
* Perform EKG's and place patient on cardiac monitor
* Maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards
* Prepare, coordinate, and arrange patient and chart as needed for admissions/transfers/OR
6. Miscellaneous tasks as assigned
* Direct and occasionally escort patient/family to appropriate area with facility
* Registers patients in database

Requirements
Education & Licensure:
* Current WI Nurse Aide Registry or level of EMT certification to include EMT-B or EMT-I (on either National Registry or State of Wisconsin) required
* BLS certification required upon hire
* High school diploma or equivalent required
Experience:
* At least one year of experience in ERT, EMT, EDT or CNA position in a hospital or Emergency Services preferred
* Previous customer service experience including in-person and telephone interactions preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
* Excellent communication and listening skills
* Excellent customer service skills
* Demonstrated ability to work independently with little direction and manage multiple demands and priorities
* Ability to balance the needs of visitors, patients and colleagues
* Demonstrated excellent customer service
* Ability to respond patiently and effectively to patients, visitors and hospital staff
* Ability to maintain effective working relationships in a stressful environment with patients, visitors and hospital staff
Physical Requirements:
* Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
* Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and reaching
* Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times
