About the role:Entry-level position located at the National Law Enforcement Communications Center (NLECC) that effectively performs the following: event logging and recording of centrally managed law enforcement radio monitoring, monitoring of intrusion detection systems, non-emergency and emergency dispatching, incident reporting, and utilization of investigative databases.
- This position operates in a 24/7 environment including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Dispatchers will work the hours and/or shifts assigned and begin and end work on time.
- All activities involve the use of computer technology, which requires a high level of accuracy, concentration, attention to detail, and multi-tasking.
What you will do: - Effectively monitor radio communications.
- Provide timely response to requests for information.
- Monitor intrusion detection systems (IDS) using automated alarm monitoring software.
- Initiate internal and external law enforcement response based on defined criteria.
- Accurately capture and document event information.
- Ensure the accuracy of information stored in the alarm database.
- Provide professional customer service to internal and external parties.
- Monitor biological detection systems (BDS) and initiate dissemination of information.
- Communicate clear and concise information via telephone and radio communications.
- Access and communicate intelligence data maintained in internal and external databases.
- Query, enter, and update electronic records.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills:
- High School Diploma and a minimum of 3 years of relevant Law Enforcement or similar occupational experience in a Law Enforcement Command Center/Dispatch environment.
- Be a citizen of the United States of America.
- Ability to pass a Government Security Background Investigation, including credit check, criminal background, and drug screening.
- Work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts.
- Ability to deliver the highest quality of work under extreme pressure.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to handle conflict in stressful situations.
- Be able to sit for an extended period of time while monitoring multiple computer monitors.
- Be able to read and comprehend the English language; including, printed regulations, written instructions, training material, etc.
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with employees and clients.
- Be able to write reports, and document events in a concise and accurate manner. This includes the ability to proofread all documentation for grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Be able to speak the English language clearly and fluently.
- Be able to provide quality customer service while communicating with internal and external parties.
- Ability to take technical direction and feedback from various sources.
- Be able to hear ordinary telephone and radio conversations with either ear.
- Be able to type a minimum of 45 words per minute (WPM).
- Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel). Radio communications surveillance software experience preferred.
- Be able to manage and prioritize tasks from multiple simultaneous sources (radio, telephone, alarm monitoring software, etc.).
Additional Position Requirements:- Obtain dispatcher certification within nine (9) months of assignment that is equivalent to the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) Law Enforcement Communications (LEC) certification.
- Obtain and maintain National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/ National Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems (NLETS) Limited Certification within six (6) months of NLECC start date.
- Must have valid CPR Certification or be willing to obtain one immediately
Clearance: Applicants selected may be subject to a government background investigation and may be required to meet the following conditions of employment.
Security Requirements/Background Investigation Requirements: - Must be a U.S Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
- Favorable credit check for all cleared positions
- Successfully passing a background investigation including drug screening.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:- Standing/Walking/Mobility: Must have mobility to attend meetings with other managers and employees. Standing for prolonged and extended periods of time.
- Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: 0% - 10% of the time.
- Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 0% - 10% of the time.
- Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to write, type and use a telephone system 100% of the time.
- Sitting: Sitting for prolonged and extended periods of time.
