OPENS: 10/02/24CLOSES: 11/01/24 at 4:30 p.m.JOB SUMMARY:Under supervision of the Public Safety Department, the Emergency Dispatcher is responsible for receiving complaints and 911 calls from the public concerning public emergencies and broadcasts. This position will directly communicate with police officers, firefighters, emergency services, and various other state, local, or Federal responders as needed. Operates technical 911 computer programming, faxes, and copiers ; performs related duties as assigned.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Questions callers to determine the who, what, where, and seriousness of emergency and response needed. Coordinates all police, fire, and other emergency requests, relaying instructions to closest and most suitable units available. Transmits and receives messages between divisions of own agency and other law enforcement agencies. Contacts police officers and firefighters to verify assignment locations, monitors dispatched units and, when necessary, serves as liaison with caller.Monitors closed circuit cameras to lock-up and other areas within the Department. Prepares reports upon request of calls for service or other essential data pertaining to the operations of the patrol division.Relays instructions or questions from remote units. Records calls broadcast and complaints received. Operates computer terminals to input, receive, and retrieve data. Ensures confidentiality of police-related information to any unauthorized person for any purpose.QUALIFICATIONS (Education and Experience):REQUIRED:Possession of a High School Diploma or a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test. Ability to obtain a LEIN (Law Enforcement Information Network) Certification.Must be fingerprinted and complete a rigorous background investigation. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Ability to sit, speak, and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. May occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.
