Additional information can be found at Job Summary Loudoun County Fire and Rescue is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time EMS Training Officer position working 40 hours a week at the Oliver Robert Dub Training Academy in Leesburg, Virginia. EMS Training Officers report to an EMS Training Specialist and are responsible for coordinating and teaching a variety of entry-level, advanced, and continuing education programs to career and volunteer providers. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide EMS training using a variety of training methods, techniques, and media to appeal to a diverse audience.
  • Conduct training for basic and advanced life support topics; monitor progress of personnel in achieving authorization to function as a released EMS provider; and ensure continuous improvement in all aspects of pre-hospital emergency care.
  • Provide accurate instruction for prescribed program learning objectives; employ effective instructional practices to promote learning. Prepare lesson plans using current educational methodologies.
  • Schedules, staffs, and coordinates delivery of classes; schedule training academy facilities and other shared resources; and communicates procurement requirements to EMS Training Specialist or designee.
  • Ensures LCFR files are accurately maintained and readily accessible; assists senior staff and program managers with records management database planning and development; maintains records management system to interface and exchange data with OEMS and Department of Fire Programs, external agencies, and clients; and manages Department records retention and archives.
While not a supervisory position, Training Officers are responsible for overseeing and directing career and volunteer students, as well as part-time and adjunct instructors, during assigned courses/programs. This position requires thorough knowledge of educational theory, principles, practices, methods, evaluation, and techniques of basic and advanced life support education as well as knowledge of database management, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, Word processing, and other computer driven programs used in the Training Division. The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; adhere to deadlines; operate independently and maintain flexibility in dynamic environments; analyze critical situations and to adapt quick, effective, and reasonable courses of action with due regard to safety, surrounding hazards, and circumstances; establish, develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, volunteer personnel, other members of the fire-rescue staff and members of the general public; and interact effectively with other agencies/departments, both inside and outside the County, on various staff assignments. Hiring salary commensurate with experience. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Fire Sciences, EMS, or related field; three (3) years of related work experience in fire/emergency medical services training and education; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid driver's license. Hold and maintain EMT, EVOC II, NFPA HazMat Awareness or higher, and BLS-HCP (or equivalent) certifications; hold and maintain (or obtain within 12 months from date of hire) VaOEMS EMS Education Coordinator certification. Preferred certifications: National Registry EMT Paramedic, BLS-HCP Instructor, ACLS Instructor, PALS Instructor, and NAEMSE Instructor I and II. Job Contingencies and Special Requirements Selection process comprised of application review and in-person interview(s). Successful candidate will undergo a comprehensive background check to include NCIC/VCIN criminal history, fingerprinting, and driving records. Local Authorization as an EMS Instructor in Loudoun County within 12 months from date of hire. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, as dictated by program needs. Must be able to lift and move heavy objects up to 50 pounds and maintain physical fitness commensurate with duties.
