Come join our team and discover your passion.Job DescriptionAHRC NYC is looking for Employment Skills Instructors to work with community youth who are interested in exploring a career of DSP and achieving an industry recognized credential such as a NADSP Direct Support Professional through classwork, online training modules and field-based internships. Our instructors create a supportive environment for youth to gain and demonstrate mastery of skills and competencies to increase job prospects, marketability to employers and employability, as well as options for postsecondary education. This is an exciting opportunity to invest into workforce development in our community.Location: Staten Island, NY 10301Salary: $50,000 per year with a comprehensive benefits package (see below)Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30am -4:30pmESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Implement work readiness and soft skills curricula to prepare participants for employment.
  • Assess and intake new participants, ensuring program eligibility.
  • Coordinate with local and state agencies to connect participants with the appropriate services.
  • Provide instruction in reading, writing, personal hygiene, independent living, and job-specific tasks.
  • Develop individualized teaching plans tailored to each participant's needs.
  • Prepare and conduct work readiness workshops at various community sites.
  • Facilitate case conferences with families, counselors, and service providers to track participants' progress.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and progress records for all participants.
  • Offer job coaching and support to participants seeking employment.
  • Assist in securing new job opportunities and career advancement for participants.
  • Integrate technology to enhance work-readiness and occupational skill development.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, or a related human services field, plus 2 years of teaching experience.
  • OR permanent certification from the NYS Department of Education/NYC Board of Education, or a combination of 8 years of related education and experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of teaching methods, principles, and techniques for working with youth.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other professionals and participants' families.
  • Strong skills in conducting evaluations and making recommendations.
  • Ability to successfully complete DOE/PIC training and implement its mandatory curriculum.
  • Valid NYS driver's license preferred.
