Responsibilities:
Clinical CompetenceSets up and turns over procedure rooms keeping up with schedule.Assists the RN in patient positioning during procedure.Demonstrates ability to set up, maintain and operate ALL equipment used.Inspects all equipment prior to use and reports any malfunctions immediately. Takes equipment out of service.Accurately collects and labels specimens.Follows Dept. policies for cleaning and disinfection of all equipment used.Provides nursing care within the CNA scope of practice to patients in Endoscopy and Ambulatory Care.Anticipates needs of the RN/MD during Endoscopic procedures + responds appropriately.Demonstrates use of clean/ aseptic technique.Protects patients and themselves by following guidelines for infection control + protective equipment.Assists with bronchoscopies on a rotating basis during off hour.Professional Behavior and GrowthDemonstrates evidence of professional growth by education thru attendance at seminars and in-services related to field of practice, and on hospital and unit committees.Researches unfamiliar procedures, diagnosis, medications, and shares findings.Acts as a resource to staff, patients and their families/significant others. EDUCATION
High School graduate or equivalent, Certification of Basic Life Support (BLS), Annual unit specific competencies, 10 (CEUs) annually.
EXPERIENCE
Ability to read, write, and perform basic math. Must be able to read instructional materials and labels. Ability to participate as a member of the patient care team and take directions.Demonstrate knowledge of effective skills for communication, listens effectively, and professionally communicates with patients, families and staff.
Ability to work independently, applying knowledge to the entire scope processing procedures. Able to perform skills required for inventory management, decontamination, and high level disinfecting and maintenance responsibilities.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Performs duties under direction of an RN.Provides technical assistance and direct support to physicians.Completes assigned duties in a timely and accurate manner. Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean environment, including supplies and maintenance of equipment. Assists team with pre procedure duties for patients including transport to and from the room, positioning, and discharge as needed. Assembles equipment and safety devices, performs equipment checks for malfunction, and reports /corrects as necessary. Accountable for following all departmental competencies, hospital policies and procedures.
COMPLEXITY
Responds to the needs of the patient and the patient care team.Opens sterile supplies, sets up equipment, and troubleshoots as needed.Prioritizes responsibilities throughout shift, working in collaboration with the patient care team. Demonstrates understanding by responding appropriately to changes in the clinical area including emergencies.Identifies and resolves problems accurately and independently.Able to work rapidly and efficiently in a fast paced demanding clinical setting .
Performs cleaning tasks and responsibilities to ensure sanitary condition of the procedural area
LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).Successful completion of the SGNA Associate Program within 1 year and Advanced Associates Program within 2 years.Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) certification, Certified Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or agreeable to obtain one of the above certifications within 2 years from date of hire.
