Operating RoomFull TimeDay7a-5p, 4 shifts/weekSalary Range: $105,216-$145,080Position Summary The Neuro Interventional Surgery Nurse's role requires a high level of knowledge, expertise, and independence because the department provides services to a wide variety of patients with diverse needs and about whom information may be limited. The Neuro Endovascular Nurse provides critical nursing care to the neurovascular patient while assisting the Neuro Endovascular Surgeon and Vascular Surgeon in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures. They closely monitor the patient for complications, administer medications including moderate sedation, document the procedure, and may circulate or scrub into procedures. Neuro Endovascular Surgery nurses also play an important role in communication and patient education both pre and post-operatively. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Include the Following: Preparing patients for procedures: Includes checking and verifying vital signs, meds, NPO status, lab results, and medical history Providing education to the patient and family members: Includes ensuring the patient and family members understand the procedure and plan of care before signing procedural consent and providing them with discharge planning/instructions Inserting and removing intravenous lines, Access ports and CVCs Administering medications including moderate sedation Monitoring patient patterns and vital signs during the procedure Overseeing the safety and comfort of patients before, during, and after procedures Circulate/scrub procedures as needed Providing post-procedure monitoring: Includes observing for signs and symptoms of complications, such as bleeding from the puncture site, pain, and/or changes in mental status or vital signs Provides care on complex Neuro cases, vascular, trauma, imaged guided biopsies, catheter placement, vascular access, and more. Manage patients on ventilators, A-lines, conscious sedation experience, capnography, Ramsey score, and ventriculostomies. Monitor patients in MRI with pacemakers placed in conditional mode Assisting inpatient nurses with transitioning IV medications Assist with contrast reaction management Educate and support patients undergoing imaging procedures Assist with other services as required Performs related duties as required Education & Experience Requirements Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current New York registration Baccalaureate in Nursing (BSN) required for all external RNs hired on or after January 1st, 2018. Knowledge of current nursing, medical and health trends and practices in the rendering of patient care. At least two years of acute care RN experience in Critical Care AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, AHA PALS Core Competencies Teamwork & Adaptability Acts as a Professional Role Model Assessment Skills Excellent Communication Skills (both verbal and written) Attention to Detail Planning & Organizing Sound Problem-Solving, Judgment and Decision-Making Skills Stress Tolerance Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) database and accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS database can also be found at the hospital switchboard, saved on a disc. Position requires ability to move about freely at least 85 percent of the time. Must be able to remain stationary for extended/prolonged periods Frequently moves/transports objects up to fifty (50) pounds and must be able to move patients of all weights with a minimum of one (1) assist or assistive device/equipment Must be able to work in an environment with continuous interruptions Must be able to assess and respond to rapidly changing situational needs of patients, departments and hospital Must be able to adapt to a high-stress and fast-paced environment with multiple interruptions Must be able to detect sounds and respond to emergency sounds/signals at all times Must be able to constantly operate a computer, equipment and other devices Position requires the ability to concentrate on fine detail with interruptions and attend to tasks for more than sixty (60) minutes at a time. Individuals must be able to understand and relate to theories behind several related concepts and remember multiple tasks given during the course of a day.
