Title: Energy Market Simulation Consultant (Contract) - Job#4283Location: Hybrid; Audubon, PA 19403 Job Description: In harmony with the vision and mission, the Energy Market Simulation Consultant supports the overall goals of the State & Member Training Department's Real-Time Energy Market Simulator. Special focus of this position is on supporting and coordinating software releases, software testing, and scenario simulation management. The use of sophisticated simulators that replicate real-time power system operations as well as day ahead and real-time power market operations are a growing part of the curriculum. Ensuring the proper functioning of the training technology, requires coordinated support internal to the department, across many other support departments, as well as with external vendors. The Energy Market Simulation Consultant will assist the Lead Technology Coordinator in this effort, performing and/or coordinating the many tasks leading up to a training event in a way that is organized, efficient, and in harmony with department standards. Responsibilities
- Assisting training and coordination staff on all matters related to the real-time market simulator, including coordinating system maintenance and ensuring the proper functioning of simulator features such as accurate power flow and market results.
- Works closely with staff of many other support departments, especially IT, as well as external vendors, to ensure goals related to training events and use of the real-time market simulator will be successful.
- Works to continually improve and enhance the simulators, adding functionality or building displays that will enhance the member experience.
- Works closely with trainers in the design and development of sophisticated training scenarios using simulators.
- Collaborate with business, IT and vendors to coordinate, schedule and implement software releases in non-production and production environments.
- Perform pre and post-install release verification to ensure the simulator environments are in working order before and after a software release.
- Triage and troubleshoot software release related issues in non-production and production environments.
- Monitor the health and availability of the simulator environments and work with SMEs and IT to resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Maintain strict compliance with all change and release management policies.
- Provides support to and maintains positive relations with other departments and staff to ensure a quality training event.
- Creates and updates documents, procedures, and guidelines as necessary. Evaluates documents for refinement after each training event or software change based on lessons learned and stakeholder feedback.
Required:
- A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, Computer Science, MIS or equivalent.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills that proactively addresses customer needs and reliability requirements with innovative, creative, and cost-effective solutions.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability and desire to build relationships and interact with a wide range of stakeholders and staff to maintain and enhance customer service reputation.
- Self-motivated, resourceful, and capable of working independently or with others in a small team environment.
Preferred Qualifications • 5 or more years of broad power system operations experience. • Basic understanding of relational databases and queries. • Direct, or indirect, experience developing software in an enterprise environment, leveraging a Software Development Lifecycle. • Knowledge of power systems and energy markets. • Experience using circuit and/or power design simulators. • Practical understanding of Markets. • Experience with Alstom/GE Energy Management Systems, Dispatch Training Simulator or Testing and Training Simulation Environment.
