Role Overview

The Energy Policy Manager will play a pivotal role in researching building performance policies and ensuring Touchstone IQ for Buildings client compliance with these regulatory requirements. This position combines policy expertise, customer engagement, software database management, and team collaboration to support clients in navigating energy regulations effectively.

The ideal candidate will have policy experience, excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences, and the ability to adapt to evolving priorities. Experience with energy regulations within the real sector is a strong plus. This role offers an opportunity to shape energy policy implementation while supporting clients in achieving compliance and sustainability goals.

Our preference is to fill this position in Denver, CO; However, remote candidates will also be considered based on unique skills or experience.

Key Responsibilities

Policy Expertise and Data Platform Maintenance

• Gain and maintain a comprehensive understanding of building energy policies at the federal, state, and local levels. This includes energy benchmarking, building performance standards (BPS), and other compliance requirements (e.g. retro-commissioning, lighting retrofits, and building tune-ups).
• Analyze and interpret government policies to ensure accurate representation of the data within the Touchstone IQ for Buildings platform.
• Regularly update the platform with accurate and detailed policy information.

Customer Communication and Education

• Act as a policy subject matter expert, guiding customers through energy regulatory requirements and helping them identify the best compliance pathways.
• Create, edit, and format professional resources such as one-pagers, presentations, blog posts, and website updates to educate customers about policy changes.
• Provide timely updates to customers about critical changes, deadlines, and compliance requirements.

Internal Training and Customer Support

• Train internal teams on the regulatory requirements and how they impact client workflows.
• Present the requirements and updates to customers in a clear, professional manner.
• Collaborate with customers and the internal Touchstone IQ team and to identify optimal reporting pathways and compliance strategies.
• Assist in creating compliance reports and offering recommendations tailored to individual customer needs.

Software Product Collaboration and Support

• Work closely with the Touchstone IQ for Buildings software product team to communicate customer feedback, suggest product improvements, and align on feature enhancements that address customer needs.
• Support database functionality by ensuring compliance data is accurate, current, and relevant.
• Act as a liaison between customers and the product team to troubleshoot issues and provide solutions.

Success in this Role Requires

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Public Policy, Communications, Data Analytics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in policy analysis, customer support, or consulting roles (experience with building performance policies preferred).
• Strong ability to interpret complex policies and communicate them effectively to diverse audiences.
• Requires outstanding attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Exceptional writing, editing, presentation, and project management skills – ideally the real estate or sustainability sector.
• Hands-on experience supporting databases or software platforms, ensuring accurate data management and platform functionality.
• Proficiency in Excel, data visualization tools, and familiarity with compliance platforms (e.g., ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager) is a plus.

Compensation

Compensation is dependent on experience with a base salary ranging from $60,000-$80,000. Additional benefits include healthcare and dental insurance, parental leave, a Denver RTD EcoPass, a hybrid work schedule (3 days in-office; 2 days from home), paid holidays, vacation and sick days as well as a matching 401k package. Our preference is to fill this position in Denver, CO; However, remote candidates will also be considered based on unique skills or experience.
