Job Description:

The Engineer for Generation Planning provides skilled technical and analytical support for the Generation Planning function and the overall Operations Division in addressing AECC's future power supply needs. This position performs and communicates results of economic studies and other analysis regarding new power plants, existing power plant expansion and repowering alternatives, power purchase agreements (PPAs) and other proposals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducts detailed quantitative /economic analysis of a wide range of generation capacity alternatives, topics, and situations, utilizing both formal tools and ad hoc workbooks.
  • Conducts validation and application of long-term, multi-regional electric supply system simulation model(s) to forecast utilization of the AECC generation assets and interaction with the electric markets.
  • Acquires and assesses recent actual AECC generation data, relevant information from AECC divisions, as well as external information, to support AECC's generation planning function.
  • Provide enhanced support to interactions with the regional transmission organizations (RTOs) for AECC's participation in resource adequacy functions and other activities.
  • Supports one or more industry working groups involved in regional planning or modeling to support and enhance AECC's generation planning activities.
  • Acquires and applies advanced knowledge of evolving industry practices for the activities of this position, as well as related industry topics and issues.
  • Provide enhanced support to one or more AECC strategic planning initiatives assigned to the Generation Planning Dept.
  • Conducts requests for proposals (RFPs) for short-term and long-term capacity and energy, as well as analysis of potential sales of surplus capacity and energy.
  • Provide additional analysis and support as directed by the Manager of Generation Planning and Operations division leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree in Engineering discipline from an accredited program.
  • Experience with Excel workbook functions and database queries helpful.
  • Exhibits above-average writing and verbal communication skills.

  • Engineer I -
  • bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited program
  • Engineer II -bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited program plus 2 years of experience and analysis in the electric industry or similar business area.
  • Enhanced skills with Excel workbook functions and database queries.
  • Exhibits responsibility regarding general and special assignments in the planning of time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work operations.
  • Exhibits enhanced writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Engineer III -
  • bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an accredited program. Minimum 4 years experience and analysis in the electric industry or similar business area.
  • High expertise with Excel workbook functions and database queries.
  • Exhibits high responsibility regarding general and special assignments in the planning of time, method, manner, and/or sequence of performance of own work operations. Capable of coordinating activities of junior departmental staff.
  • Exhibits strong writing and verbal communication skills.

PREFERRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Achieved Engineer in Training status (pass FE exam); planning for professional engineer (PE) status.
  • Recent training classes in electric industry or related energy field.
  • Certificates regarding Microsoft Excel and /or other technical support tools.
