Summary of Position:We are seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Water Engineer to spearhead our water management engineering efforts in the Permian Basin, with a particular focus on saltwater disposal systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing water systems and infrastructure to support our drilling and completions operations, while ensuring environmental sustainability and regulatory compliance. This role will place special emphasis on saltwater disposal well engineering, skim oil capture optimization, hydraulic modeling of water systems, and long-term produced water forecasting. The Lead Water Engineer will play a crucial role in developing and executing strategies to maximize the efficiency and sustainability of our water management operations, particularly in the realm of produced water handling and disposal.Primary Job Responsibilities:* Water System Design and Engineering:* Lead the design and engineering of water sourcing, transfer, storage, and disposal systems* Develop and optimize water recycling and treatment processes* Create detailed engineering plans, specifications, and technical drawings for water management projects* Conduct feasibility studies and cost-benefit analyses for proposed water management solutions* Project Management:* Oversee water infrastructure projects from conception to completion* Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources* Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal teams to ensure successful project execution* Conduct regular project reviews and provide status updates to management* Performance Optimization:* Analyze water system performance data to identify areas for improvement* Develop and implement strategies to enhance water use efficiency and reduce operational costs* Optimize water treatment processes to maximize water recycling and minimize freshwater consumption* Conduct regular system audits and recommend upgrades or modifications as needed* Regulatory Compliance and Environmental Stewardship:* Ensure all water management designs and systems comply with local, state, and federal regulations* Collaborate with the environmental team to minimize the environmental impact of water operations* Prepare technical documentation for permit applications and regulatory reporting* Represent the company in discussions with regulatory agencies on water management matters* Innovation and Technology Integration:* Evaluate and recommend new technologies for water management and treatment* Lead pilot projects to test and implement innovative water management solutions* Develop automation and control systems for water infrastructure* Collaborate with IT and data teams to implement digital solutions for water management* Cross-functional Collaboration:* Work closely with operations, drilling, and completions teams to align water management strategies with operational needs* Collaborate with the HSE team to ensure water management practices meet safety and environmental standards* Participate in strategic planning sessions to support the company's long-term water management goals* Saltwater Disposal (SWD) Wells and Systems Engineering:* Design and optimize saltwater disposal well systems, including wellbore design, surface facilities, and connected pipeline networks* Develop engineering solutions to maximize injection capacity and well longevity* Conduct reservoir characterization studies to identify optimal disposal zones and predict long-term injectivity* Design and implement pressure monitoring systems for SWD wells to ensure safe operations and regulatory compliance* Develop strategies to mitigate seismicity risks associated with SWD operations* Skim Oil Capture Optimization:* Design and implement advanced oil-water separation systems to maximize skim oil recovery* Optimize tank battery configurations and retention times to enhance gravity separation* Evaluate and recommend technologies such as induced gas flotation, centrifuges, or electrostatic coalescers for enhanced oil recovery* Develop monitoring and control systems to continuously optimize skim capture efficiency* Conduct economic analyses to justify investments in skim capture technologies* Hydraulic Modeling and System Analysis:* Develop and maintain comprehensive hydraulic models of the entire water management system, including sourcing, transfer, and disposal networks* Use advanced modeling software to simulate system performance under various operational scenarios* Optimize pump selections, pipeline sizes, and system configurations to minimize energy consumption and maximize throughput* Conduct transient analyses to identify and mitigate potential surge risks in the pipeline network* Use modeling results to inform capital investment decisions and operational strategies* Produced Water Production Forecasting:* Collaborate with reservoir engineering teams to develop accurate long-term produced water production forecasts* Create data-driven models to predict water-to-oil ratios (WOR) throughout the life cycle of wells and fields* Integrate production forecasts with development plans to project future water handling requirements* Develop scenario analyses to account for uncertainties in future water production* Use forecasting results to guide long-term water infrastructure planning and investment decisionsKnowledge/Skills/Competencies* Extensive experience in designing and optimizing saltwater disposal systems* In-depth knowledge of oil-water separation technologies and skim oil recovery methods* Strong background in data analysis and statistical modeling for production forecasting* Familiarity with reservoir simulation software and decline curve analysis* Lead the engineering efforts for saltwater disposal well design and optimization* Develop and implement strategies to maximize skim oil capture across operations* Create and maintain comprehensive hydraulic models of the water management system* Collaborate with reservoir engineering to develop accurate long-term water production forecasts* Use forecasting and modeling results to guide strategic planning for water infrastructureSupervisory Responsibilities:* This role does not have any supervisory responsibilities.Education & Experience:* Bachelor's degree in civil, Environmental, or Chemical Engineering; Master's degree preferred* 8-10 years of experience in oilfield water management engineering* In-depth knowledge of water treatment technologies, hydraulic systems, and pipeline design* Strong understanding of regulatory requirements for oilfield water management in the Permian Basin* Excellent project management skills and experience with project management software* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesTravel Requirements:* Work Location: Work is performed at a CIVI location Monday through Thursday, with the option to work remotely on Fridays as business needs allow and with manager approval.* Schedule: Traditional 40-hour workweek or an alternative schedule of 9-hour workdays Monday through Thursday and 4-hour workdays on Friday, as business needs allow and with manager
