Job Description:
This position is in Rochester, NY and relocation is not available. The Thermal Engineering R&D Manager will lead the R&D efforts of the engineering team for thermal analysis, new product development, and improving current production methods. This role directs the finite element analysis efforts as well as analytical modeling for the prediction of thermal systems performance. Broad knowledge of engineering systems, test setups and data acquisition are a plus. Duties and Responsibilities: Perform 3D thermal analysis on systems in support of product development. Evaluate thermal analysis results and provide feedback and design direction. Work with the Engineering team to refine material properties used in thermal models. Provide guidance to Engineers and Analysts to improve finite element modeling predictions. Set goals and develop project plans for analyzing material properties and thermal performance impact. Write technical protocols and reports to document test procedures and results of R&D studies. Write technical memos to support and justify changes, excursions, customer inquiries, etc. Occasionally interface with customers to help explain our modeling approach, results, and analysis. Research and compare new and emerging technologies relevant to new or existing products and process. Work with external vendors to understand capability, limitations, user requirements, etc. Build prototypes and test fixtures to aid in data gathering and design evaluation. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications/Experience: Bachelors Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent (Masters Degree is a plus). 5+ years experience in thermal analysis using CAE. Working knowledge and experience using Siemens PLMs NX software is a plus. 5+ years of Finite Element Modeling (FEM) experience. 2+ years of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling experience. 2+ years of managerial experience is a plus. Strong knowledge of heat transfer and thermal principles in conduction and convection. Good problem-solving skills involving multiple variables. A background in Design of Experiments is helpful. Self-motivated and able to work independently. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, to work at different projects at the same time, and to think analytically. Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills. A good command of the English language is mandatory. Strong communication skills both oral and written. Travel: Up to 10% travel may be required. Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, frequently will be required to sit; type; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls (some repetitive motion); and talk or hear. Also, occasionally will be required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch and lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include some close vision. Tools & Equipment : PC, printer, telephone, fax machine, copier and other office equipment. Manufacturing tools: cutting machine, tape, and vacuum chamber machine. Environmental Factors: Normal office, warehouse environment. Chemical Manufacturing environment, which requires wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when performing specific functions. Exposure to fumes and airborne particles is moderate. Caustic chemicals, extreme heat and risk of electrical shock are present. The noise level in this environment mid-range to loud.
