Applicant lists may be screened more than once.The Traffic Support division is responsible for providing or reviewing permanent signing and striping plans, roadway lighting plans, and traffic signal plans for construction. The Bureau also creates and edits standard drawings and specifications, conducts and reviews traffic analysis, and conducts and reviews traffic studies. Why does the job exist?The Engineering Manager I position provides plan reviews of design plans in the areas of permanent signing and striping, roadway lighting, and signalization and to a lesser extent construction signing. In some cases, the position may require the production of plans for these areas with the exception of construction signing. Responsibilities also include review and/or production of various traffic studies, including but not limited to signal warrant studies, speed studies, gap studies, capacity studies, etc. Researching and compiling information for the formulation and modification of standard drawings, details, and specifications is also a major responsibility. This position may be asked to attend national meetings and serve on committees or subcommittees as necessary. The Engineering Professional I staff is supervised by this position as well. How does it get done?The key responsibilities for the position are the supervision of the Engineering Professional staff as well as providing support for the NMDOT Design Regions and Districts in the development of construction plans. In addition, creation and revision of standard drawings and specifications will be required. Traffic analysis and review of traffic analysis are also key components. Who are the customers?This job is performed for the public citizens of New Mexico as well as for the NMDOT Design Regions and District staff. Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate will have experience in the areas of traffic analysis, permanent signing and striping, signalization, and roadway lighting. This person would also have experience in developing standard drawings and specifications as well as researching engineering research publications and websites. Minimum QualificationBachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant engineering discipline with licensure and six (6) years of engineering experience, two (2) of which must be as a Licensed Professional Engineer. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling ten (10) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Must be certified by the NMBLPEPS as a Licensed Professional Engineer in good standing within six (6) months of hire. Employment RequirementsMust possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.Employment requires successful completion of pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results.Business Reference check is required, and employment is conditional pending results. Working ConditionsWork is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Mostly office setting with some field exposure at active construction sites requiring personal protection equipment and safety awareness.
