Exempt/Non-Exempt Non-Exempt Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time Position Engineering Technician Description
The City of Saco is seeking an Engineering Technician. This is a technical position that will report directly to the City Engineer. Overall responsibilities for the position include field services data collection and infrastructure inspection in support of the City's Geographic Information System (GIS) and stormwater management compliance as well as administering the City's Street Opening Permit Program. In addition, this position requires the ability to communicate clearly in a verbal and written format; create spreadsheets, graphs and perform basic calculations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Data collection and condition assessment inventory of assets.
* Tabulate data, create spreadsheets, and graphs.
* Assist in identifying and scheduling of inspections, maintenance, and quality control testing/sampling for regulatory permits.
* Assist in the City's MS4 Stormwater Permit data collection efforts, record keeping and preparation of annual reports.
* Perform GPS and GIS related field data collection related to transportation, drainage, and sewer infrastructure.
* Perform compliance inspections related to Street Opening Permits.
* Coordinates activities with other departments, agencies, contractors and the public on various projects.
* Clear and concise communication with staff and the public concerning department related issues is essential.
* Maintain possession of a valid Class C driver's license.
* Other duties as assigned by the City Engineer.
Position Requirements
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
* Basic knowledge of City standards, practices, methods, equipment, and materials.
* Ability to keep accurate records and create reports as needed.
* Ability to comprehend oral and written directives, initiatives, and complete assignments in a timely manner.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Experience with AutoCAD or ESRI GIS software desirable.
* Ability to use survey and field data collection equipment including GPS units.
* Ability to interact with fellow staff as a team player, and be self-motivated in undertaking
* Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction plans and specifications.
