Job Title: Engineering Hull Lead Location: Pascagoula, MS, US Position Level: Non-Executive Job Type: Full Time GENERAL FUNCTION: The Engineering Hull Lead is responsible for supervising a group of department personnel, the products produced by the Functional Hull Design group, and ensuring project goals and tasks are accomplished. The Engineering Hull Lead reports directly to the Functional Hull Design Manager. TYPICAL DUTIES: The following statements are intended to describe the general responsibilities and level of work to be performed but are not to be construed as an exhaustive list:
  • Manage required Functional Hull Design deliverables, including developing a schedule for issuing deliverables and ensuring they are issued on time.
  • Approve the technical content and quality of deliverables.
  • Prepare, oversee, and assign design calculations and drawing development to support the Functional Hull Design of the project.
  • Supervise project team members.
  • Provide technical guidance as required.
  • Provide support to the Production Design group within the Engineering Department as needed.
  • Work with the Engineering Leads of other engineering disciplines.
  • Coordinate with the Project Engineer, Program Management, and Production Personnel to ensure all program requirements are fulfilled in accordance with the project schedule.
  • Attend regular meetings to provide status updates on various aspects of the project such as deliverable schedule, vendor furnished information, etc.
  • Lead meetings with subcontractors, customers, and regulatory bodies.
  • Coordinate and manage subcontractors including the technical content of their deliverables and adherence to schedule.
  • Support the procurement of materials with the Supply Chain Management department, as well as developing Scope of Work for quotations.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Proactive and resourceful, able to recommend solutions for problems that arise and provide direction as needed.
  • Good understanding of all phases of marine vessel design and construction.
  • Experience in the following areas:
    • Naval Architecture: Stability, intact & damage calculations, incline/deadweight experiment, launch calculations, etc.
    • Structure: Scantling design and arrangement, welding, penetrations, repair.
    • Outfitting: Joiner equipment, foundations, windows & portlights, doors, hatches, manholes, inclined ladders, etc.
  • Experience in supervising others.
  • Firm understanding of scheduling and ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Experience interacting with production personnel, multiple design teams from several companies, customer representatives, and equipment manufacturers.
  • Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees, customers, and subcontractors.
  • Strong working knowledge of Maritime Regulatory Authorities (i.e., ABS, DNV, NAVSEA, MIL, USCG, IMO, MSC, etc.).
  • Knowledge of various computer programs including AutoCAD, NAVIS, General Hydrostatics, and Microsoft Office Suite. Working knowledge in FEMAP is a plus.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline with a minimum of 10 years in shipyard design and/or construction experience.
