POSITION:Engineering Lab Technician (Non-Exempt)HSU JOB FAMILY CLASSIFICATION: Academic Technical IIDEPARTMENT:Holland School of Sciences & MathematicsSUPERVISOR TITLE:Dean, Holland School of Sciences and MathematicsFLSA STATUS:Non-ExemptEXEMPTION:N/ALOCATION: HSU Campus, Abilene, TexasTARGET HIRE DATE:6/3/2024HSU CHRISTIAN STANDARD REQUIREMENT FOR EMPLOYMENT -Candidate mustprofess a Christian Faith, maintain membership in a local congregation, andrespect the values and distinctives central to the historically Baptist valuesof HSU as reflected in theUniversity's Statement of Faith.CONTACT INFORMATION: Human Resources 325-###-#### or ...@hsutx.edu SUMMARY/SCOPE:Oversee engineering laboratories both for academic andresearch purposes.HSU JOB FAMILY CLASSIFICATION INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Utilizeconventional and modern equipment to fabricate parts or prototypes for academicand research purposes, including CNC and conventional milling machines andlathes, water jet cutters, laser cutters, welding equipment, and other commonmachine shop tools and equipment.Facilitateand oversee the repair and maintenance of scientific equipment.Supportlaboratory-focused courses, including instructing students on safe equipmentusage and fabricating specimens for laboratory testing.Train andcertify students, faculty, and staff in safe equipment operation.Beresponsible for the safety, overall cleanliness, and proper operating conditionof equipment and labs.Supervisestudent workers who help in laboratories.Be able toproblem-solve in the moment and use independent judgement and discretion inevaluation of tasks, opportunities, and problems at hand.Must beorganized, able to handle several projects simultaneously, and be flexibleregarding tasks.Able tostay on task without direct supervision. Ability to interpret avariety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this jobsuccessfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software;Spreadsheet software; Internet software; CAD software.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Required:Bachelor's degree from four-yearcollege or university; or two to four years related experience and/or training;or equivalent combination of education and experience.Preferred: Minimum of two years ofexperience in manufacturing and/or fabrication or engineering laboratory background.Degree in engineering technology,manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, or related field.Strong CAD and/or design experience.Additional Requirements: Mustbe self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.Mustpossess excellent oral and written communication skills.Mustbe organized, able to handle several projects simultaneously and be flexibleregarding tasks.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:None are required for this position at this time.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here arerepresentative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully performthe essential functions of this job. Occasionalirregular hours and evening and weekend work and/or assignments beyond a40-hour week is required during peak season and/or to meet project deadlines isrequired. Must have and maintain a valid Class C Driver's License andmaintain a clear driving record to be insurable under the university liabilitypolicy. Must be able to drive to complete work assignments on andoff campus, as needed.
