Wilkes University invites applicants for an Engineering Laboratory Manager in the School of Engineering. The School of Engineering consists of ABET accredited undergraduate programs in Electrical, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering. Civil Engineering has recently been added and is in the process of accreditation preparation. Graduate programs are offered in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering management and bioengineering. Project-based classes allow students to obtain substantial hands-on experience throughout their time at Wilkes. Recent renovations to the engineering facilities in Stark Learning Center created state-of-the-art lab and learning spaces in disciplines that include microfabrication, additive manufacturing and bioengineering. The School of Engineering is consistently well ranked in college surveys.The successful candidate is responsible for oversight and maintenance of the laboratory equipment in the School of Engineering labs. They will work with faculty to regularly inventory equipment and supplies, order new supplies as needed, and installation and operation of new and existing equipment. They will help maintain safe working conditions through the monitoring of proper safety signage, equipment and practices as well as managing the safe and appropriate disposal of electronic and chemical waste. They will work with Wilkes IT department to ensure that all lab hardware and software is up to date and functioning properly. They will provide assistance as needed for student projects, provide representation as needed on university lab, health, and safety committees. They will assist in development and planning of laboratory usage to help optimize and maintain a safe, efficient, and beneficial laboratory environment for students. They will maintain appropriate records and logs of maintenance, repairs, and any other events as needed. They may assist other departments with instrumentation issues as directed by their supervisor. This position reports to the Associate Dean of the College of Business and Engineering.Bachelor's Degree in a related field and three years of related and demonstrated experience in a comparable environment or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience is required. The ideal candidate will have mechanical and electronic skills relevant to maintenance, repair and modification of scientific instruments, as well as computer skills for instrument operation and data analysis. The candidate should possess the ability to work independently as well as good interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate working with faculty and students. Attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation is necessary.
