Position Title Engineering Laboratory Operations Director/Facilities Manager Position Number 899146 School/Division School of Engineering Department Full-Time or Part-Time Full-Time Description

Reporting to the Chairperson, the Engineering Laboratory Operations Director/Facilities Manager is responsible for directing the safe and efficient operation of engineering laboratories within the DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Designs and manages approximately fifteen laboratories to optimize available spaces in engineering buildings, coordinating with the Plant department on all building reconfigurations.

* Works directly with faculty in engineering disciplines on design and incorporation into curriculum of new experiments.

* Manages the interfaces with laboratory equipment vendors and suppliers.

* Manages purchases to replenish the Materials Stock Rooms and negotiate equipment service contracts.

* Oversees equipment service calls and training sessions.

* Manages the safety training of student aides, and the tracking and reporting of this training.

* Manages the chemical and hazardous material inventory as well as the inventory and operation of the compressed Gas Shed.

* Works with the design and fabrication staff to provide training on the use of industrial power tools. Coordinates the handling and disposal of hazardous waste and the development of lab safety training programs for faculty and students with the Environmental Health and Safety Officer.

* Oversees the Engineering Media Production equipment, trains students in the use of HD, micro- and high-speed media equipment, and provides media development including media used for safety training.

* Supervises the Senior Technician in the Engineering department.

* Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree required, preferably in engineering or a natural science.

* Minimum 3 years of prior experience in a technical environment, preferably working within engineering laboratories in higher education.

* Knowledge and experience in incorporating and training others on OSHA requirements and standards in a laboratory setting.

* Experience with technical drawing software (such as AutoCAD) and the Microsoft 365 software suite.

* Strong oral, written, and graphical communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications

* Master's degree preferred.

* Varied fabrication, testing, manufacturing, or maker experience.

* Experience using engineering, testing, and/or manufacturing laboratory equipment is a plus.

Salary/Salary Range $68,000 - $78,000
