Overview
The Stryten factory in Salina, Kansas is one of the largest lead-acid battery manufacturing sites in North America with 800 employees capable of producing more than 35,000 quality batteries per day. These batteries can be found in your car, in your boat or RV, or, in your lawn and garden equipment. Stryten proudly supports the local community by regularly participating in Project Salina, the Salvation Army Angel Tree program, and providing more than 100 volunteers for the Smoky Hill River Festival.
The duties of the Engineering Manager include planning, designing, and overseeing projects, as well as managing finances and supervising the on-sight engineering team. The Engineering Manager is responsible for defining, maintaining, and supporting the battery manufacturing processes. This individual will lead process innovation and process enhancements to assure high quality and cost-effective products. The Engineering Manager will coordinate the integration of material processing equipment to ensure a safe and cost-effective manufacturing process. Responsibilities
- Provides direction regarding company policies and enforces safety policies and practices.
- Maintain a zero-injury mindset.
- Determine the need for training and talent development of the engineering team.
- Provide clear and concise instructions to engineering team members.
- Check the engineering team's work for technical accuracy and detail.
- Manage and direct all plant engineering activities, cost analysis, coordinate and evaluate all quotation activity.
- Lead team to create scope of work for all projects.
- Collaborate with production to improve throughput, ergonomics, and provide a safe environment for the team members to work.
- Establish a collaborative team to work cohesively to complete any task.
- Ensure the engineering team follows specified process and program management system to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget.
- Work with vendors and contractors to ensure projects are completed successfully and timelines are met.
- Responsible for managing all engineering changes and successful implementation, from quote to PPAP.
- Maintain a working knowledge of all engineering projects of the engineering team.
- Evaluates battery manufacturing processes for product performance, work force utilization, space requirements, and layout of equipment and workspace for maximum productivity.
- Collaborate with plant personnel to implement operating procedures and resolve system malfunctions.
- Collaborate with corporate engineering to determine product specifications to match with equipment, materials, or parts capabilities to meet product performance expectations.
- Work with corporate engineering individuals and teams to ensure that the plant is getting the best possible engineering support.
- Recommend revisions to methods of operation or material handling, alterations in equipment layout, or other process changes to improve safety, quality, delivery, and/or cost performance.
- Oversees capital project installation/implementation to ensure machines and equipment are installed and functioning according to specifications.
- Establish work measurement programs and analyze work samples to develop standards for labor utilization.
- Project planning for improvement opportunities and support kaizens to produce positive business results.
- Comply with current Quality Systems requirements.
- Follow Lean manufacturing concepts.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering required.
- Five (5) years of proven work experience as an Engineering Manager or similar role.
- Prefer Six Sigma Certification.
Requirements:
- Sitting, standing, bending, twisting, and walking as necessary.
- Analytical skills for evaluating information carefully and solving complex problems.
- Communication skills for overseeing staff, working with other management personnel, and the ability to communicate to all levels of the organization.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to catch minor errors which can result in major problems.
- Organizational skills for keeping track of various budgets, employees, and schedules simultaneously.
Equipment Used:
- Must possess excellent computer skills.
- Computer skills that will be required relate to Microsoft office programs i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point, and project management.
- Prefer experience and knowledge in CAD systems.
