Trident is looking for a strong Engineering Manager to lead the team responsible for Engineering and Project Management at our rapidly growing company. As a contract manufacturer of medical devices, we partner with startups, leading medical device OEMs, and top-tier component manufacturers to develop innovative and reliable manufacturing processes to bring medical devices to market and improve healthcare outcomes. This position will provide a uniquely broad exposure and network within the U.S. medical device industry, working with a wide variety of customers and vendors.
Note: This is a 100% on-site position in Pingree Grove, IL with minimal travel. Only local candidates will be considered.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor engineering staff, fostering professional growth and holding a high standard of performance.
- Work with the existing Project Management team members to improve and monitor launch processes that consistently deliver projects on predictable timelines.
- Oversee the design, development, and manufacturing of medical devices from initial quoting and design for manufacturing through production launch and beyond.
- Serve as the direct supervisor for the engineering team, providing guidance, support, and performance evaluations.
- Collaborate with the sales team to quote the cost to manufacture new devices as part of business development efforts. Review customer requirements and design specifications, ensuring the team provides design for manufacturing feedback to reduce production costs and complexity.
- Work closely with the Quality Engineering team to establish and document all quality control aspects of products.
- Ensure effective management of sub-tier suppliers from the initial quotation phase through PPAP approval and start of production.
- Oversee the design and manufacturing of custom assembly fixtures and equipment needed for production.
- Ensure the development and maintenance of all process documentation, including manufacturing instructions, test methods, and process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ).
- Champion quality improvement and cost-saving initiatives post-launch.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 8+ years of experience in design, development, or manufacturing of mechanical products or equipment, preferably medical devices.
- 2+ years of experience in a leadership role, managing technical teams.
- Proven ability to manage a team to meet project deadlines.
- Strong project management skills with a detail-oriented mindset.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting complex technical content to our customers clearly.
- Preferred but not required: experience with one or more of the following manufacturing processes: injection molding of thermoplastics, die cutting, metal forming or machining, sterile barrier packaging, thermoforming of thermoplastics, ultrasonic welding, UV cure adhesives.
