Position Summary:The Engineering Manager is responsible for directing, driving, and supporting Maintenance, Engineering, Continuous Improvement, and site Environmental Health and Safety at Tedia. He/She will work with other department managers to plan, coordinate and implement all process improvement programs to ensure maximum operational and cost efficiency. He/She will focus on implementing and supporting cost-saving capital projects in the areas of Production, Shipping, Building Maintenance and Quality Assurance, but may also develop process improvement programs in administrative areas. The implementation of such projects includes long-term monitoring of program effectiveness through statistical reporting and analysis as well as other methods. He/She is also responsible for maintaining the facility, production, and material handling equipment at Tedia. He/She will lead the effort to comply with OSHA Process Safety Management and EPA Risk Management Plans. He/She will ensure facility emissions are reported to the OEPA as required. Essential Duties:
- Site Safety and Regulatory Compliance Management:
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety programs that comply with OSHA regulations and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
- Lead incident investigations and ensure proper reporting procedures are followed.
- Organize training sessions for employees on safety protocols, emergency response procedures, and equipment handling.
- Ensure all engineering activities comply with local, state, federal regulations as well as industry standards related to chemical manufacturing.
- Prepare documentation required for regulatory inspections or audits.
- Engineering Management:
- Manage engineering projects from conception through execution, ensuring alignment with company goals and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design efficient processes for solvent distillation operations.
- Evaluate new technologies and methodologies to enhance production efficiency while minimizing environmental impact.
- Oversee the development of engineering specifications for equipment procurement.
- Develop analytical and statistical methods to analyze new or existing engineering programs accurately and efficiently
- Track project plans, provide detailed reports of progress, develop appropriate conclusions based upon results to assist in evaluation and testing throughout project life cycle
- Formulate and maintain Engineering objectives complementary to corporate policies and goals
- Design and implement Engineering training programs (general concepts and methods) for all levels of personnel
- Provide regular feedback to management on all Engineering related activities within the organization
- Facilities and RC Maintenance Management:
- Establish a preventive maintenance program for all facility equipment to minimize downtime and extend asset life.
- Coordinate repairs and upgrades of existing infrastructure to ensure optimal operational performance.
- Manage relationships with external contractors for specialized maintenance services as needed.
- Monitor facility conditions to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Ensure adequate production and building facilities
- Ensure adequate building facilities by directing and supporting building expansion, construction, and maintenance
- Ensure adequate production facilities by working with the Production Staff to direct and support production capacity through expansion and maintenance
- Work with Production Manager to establish and maintain procedures to inspect, calibrate and keep records for all equipment. Ensure their optimum performance by scheduling preventive maintenance and repair
- Team Leadership:
- Lead a team of engineers and maintenance personnel by providing guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
- Foster an inclusive work environment that encourages collaboration and professional development among team members.
- Set clear objectives for the engineering team aligned with organizational goals.
- Budget Management:
- Develop annual budgets for engineering projects and facilities maintenance; monitor expenditures against budgetary constraints.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
- Implement capital and operational improvements in day-to-day production and shipping activities (working with department managers) to achieve maximum utilization of resources, high product quality and low cost of manufacture
- Assess impact of potential projects on business results
- Perform and adhere to Return on Investment (ROI) calculations whenever possible
- Serve as operational excellence resource for departmental teams
- Participate in strategic planning, budgeting and operations planning for capital projects for all departments
- Oversee departmental budget and program budgets
- Evaluate and justify the purchases of new equipment
Supervisory Responsibility:Continuous Improvement Engineer, Application Engineer, Sr. EH&S Engineer, Maintenance Supervisor
- Train, supervise and manage all Engineering, Maintenance, and Safety personnel within the organization
- Provide regular performance evaluation, feedback and direction to subordinates
- Develop subordinates' skills and encourage their growth
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
- Proven project leadership skills and accomplishments
- Success in implementing ideas and influencing people in a team environment
- BS or higher degree in Engineering and 5 years demonstrated management experience
- Strong skills in facility management, planning, analysis, organization, and problem-solving
- Understand the total impact of the program on the entire organization and optimize its integration into the departments
- Work independently, analyze problems and make decisions with minimal management intervention, consistent with established policies
- Command of statistical process control tools to increase efficiency of design and process monitoring
- Serve as team facilitator and present training to all levels of employees
- Knowledge of Quality Systems (ISO) and Strategic Planning process
- Familiarity with computers (SAP, Windows, Microsoft products)
- Strong communication skills to work with employees, contractors and vendors
- Provide technical drawings and diagrams to vendors
