Job Summary - This position provides production and support in District 6 Design using MicroStation to prepare 3D designs and construction plans for transportation systems. The work includes developing scoping documents, information for environmental documents, 3D designs, construction plans, special provisions, and supplemental documents.
- Perform advanced duties, such as technical detail designing and drafting of construction plans according to MnDOT design standards; performs related work as required.
- Plan and organize work based on deadlines, procedures, and standards. Determine what shall be done, how it will be done, and continually improve work processes.
- The successful applicant may perform as a lead worker, having considerable freedom to organize material and other resources as well as prioritize, guide, and report on the work activities of other state employees.

Qualifications Minimum Qualifications To qualify for Engineering Specialist, applicants must meet all the following: Three (3) years para-engineering experience (at the Transportation Specialist level or equivalent) that demonstrates:
- MicroStation, GEOPAK and/or OpenRoads Designer (or equivalent CADD software).
- Experience in creating alignments, profiles, and cross sections using MicroStation, GEOPAK and/or OpenRoads Designer (or equivalent CADD software), utilizing CADD standards and drafting methods sufficient to perform and to direct others in preparing detailed construction plans and specifications.
- Experience creating construction plans, removal computations, proposed quantities, alignment profiles, super elevations, typical sections, cross sections, complex design details, drafting skills, earthwork, analysis and computations, erosion control and turf design, construction staging, utilities, retaining and noise wall design, safety feature design (guardrail, attenuators, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications - Experience using 3D Design Software
- Knowledge and experience using federal and agency design standards, specifications, and procedures.
