The Opportunity:A CMS Engineering Technician is responsible for a variety of field centric duties including, performing field testing for concrete, soils, asphalt, structural connections, and other various construction materials. Responsibilities include completing and submitting accurate Daily Field reports and performing routine tasks, tests and calculations associated with construction materials testing and field observations. Engineering Technicians assist staff with field monitoring and independently operate required equipment on project sites. You will take and transport construction materials samples, monitor, interpret and communicate test results to contractors, clients, architects and other project Team Members. Technicians need to be able to recognize and effectively communicate construction challenges to the proper party in a timely manner and maintain testing equipment, while in use, in such a state as to prevent failure, degradation, or erroneous test results. Field Evaluations: Conduct detailed on-site reviews to assess construction progress, evaluate contractor adherence to project specifications, identify potential challenges, perform specialized tests on construction materials to verify quality standards are consistently met, analyze data and project information, and apply your expertise and training to make well-informed recommendations to help keep projects on track.Testing: Perform various tests on construction materials and components to ensure quality standards are met.Detailed Reporting: Prepare detailed and accurate reports summarizing field observations, test results, and any potential issues encountered during the project.Evaluations: Evaluate construction practices and methods to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.Assessments: Analyze data and project information to make informed decisions and recommendations for project enhancements.Quality Control: Implement and maintain quality control procedures to guarantee the highest standards are consistently met.Collaboration: Work closely with the project team, including engineers, supervisors, and contractors, to facilitate seamless communication and project progress.Troubleshooting: Identify and troubleshoot construction-related challenges and provide effective solutions.Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and industry standards throughout the project.Technology Utilization: Utilize applicable technology tools and software to streamline data collection, reporting, and project management.Continuous Learning: Stay updated with the latest industry trends, advancements, and best practices to enhance personal and team performance.Core Competencies:
- Has competency using computer operating systems and MS Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills to effectively interact with clients, team members, and supervisors, conveying technical information clearly.
- Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize, manage workloads, maintain accurate and detailed record-keeping skills, documenting field observations, safety concerns, and problem resolutions.
- Effective interpersonal skills to build rapport with clients and team members, fostering positive working relationships, customer-centric approach to provide excellent service to clients, ensuring their needs and concerns are addressed promptly and professionally.
- Must be able to understand and adapt to change and react productively to frequent interruptions and changing conditions.
- Basic construction competencies including ability to determine location from surface features and landmarks by interpretation from surveys, road maps, aerial photos, topographic maps, and geologic maps; understanding construction stakes set by others, and color markings of utility companies.
- Has a general aptitude for identifying and resolving complex technical problems in the field, utilizing critical thinking and logical reasoning.
- Demonstrates ethical conduct, maintaining confidentiality and ensuring safety and security in all aspects of work, strict adherence to safety protocols and guidelines, fostering a safe working environment for yourself and others.
- Ability to handle physical demands, such as lifting (up to 50lbs repetitively), walking on uneven ground frequently, and carrying equipment, working in various weather conditions, and traveling to different locations.
