R D Engineering Technician Department: Engineering and R D Employment Type: Full Time Location: Cazenovia, New York Reporting To: Director of R D Compensation: $75,000 - $80,000 / year Description Working in an Engineering Research and Development Laboratory with the responsibility of testing and evaluating electronic components and constructing and developing prototype capacitors, test circuitry and test equipment related to existing and new products and processes. Running experiments and recording results. Writing high-level code for control and data acquisition related code, such as VB.NET apps. Providing creative input. Documenting prototype construction details to assist with transition from Prototype to Production. Key Responsibilities Set up and conduct experiments and record data and document results as requested by Research Director. Write code to control test equipment and acquire test data and waveforms. Set up and operate test equipment to evaluate performance of developmental parts, assemblies, or systems under simulated operating conditions, and record results. Assemble electrical and electronic systems and prototypes according to engineering data and knowledge of electrical principles, using hand tools and measuring instruments. Provide summary reports of test and experiment results. Construct prototype capacitors in laboratory or production floor environment. Support NPI (new production introductions) by documenting details during construction of development capacitors to facilitate the transition from Prototype to Production. Construct equipment from schematics and sketches. Build, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, or repair electrical instruments or testing equipment in R D electrical laboratory. Provide technical assistance and resolution when electrical or engineering problems are encountered. Modify electrical prototypes, parts, assemblies, or systems to correct functional deviations. Create/ modify diagrams and write/edit engineering specifications to clarify design details and functional criteria of experimental electronic circuits. Participate in the development or testing of capacitors for new green technologies, such as renewable energy generation, lighting and energy-efficient consumer products. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Knowledge of electrical safety around high voltage equipment and components. Ability to respect confidential data and information. Ability to read and create electrical and electronic schematics. Ability to troubleshoot and debug electronic circuits. Ability to lay out circuit boards using PCB design software. Familiarity with Spice modeling software is a plus. Fluency with spreadsheets, including interactive charts and macros. Code-writing experience, especially VB.NET, VBA, C++, C#. Ability to read and understand engineering data, graphs and reports. Ability to proactively observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources. Ability to communicate with supervisors, peers, or subordinates Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates verbally or in writing. Ability to analyze data or information Identifying the underlying principles of and explain observations by combining or parsing the relevant facts and data. Some knowledge and prior use of drafting or mechanical drawing techniques (CAD) is a plus. Familiarity with scientific research methodology such as hypothesis testing. Knowledge of systems of measurement both English and metric. Proficiency with algebra and unit conversions / dimensional analysis.Ability to prioritize, organize, plan, and track a few short-term projects along with several ongoing projects. Ability to develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish your work. The starting base pay for this role is 75,000 - $80,000 per year.
