Engineering Technician -Public WorksLocationStorm Water AdminWork StatusFull TimeTHIS POSITION WILL CLOSE ON .* Open Until FilledSALARY: $23.11 - 28.89 Hourly USDJOB SUMMARY:Performs a variety of technical and field engineering tasks for stormwater and floodplain related inquiries and projects.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:1. Ability to assist in the design and preparation of engineering plans, maps, specifications, and cost estimates in connection with the construction and maintenance of a variety of engineering capital projects; prepare graphics such as exhibits, charts, illustrations, graphs, location maps using GIS.2. Ability to perform computer aided design (CAD) drafting in AutoCAD and computing operations in preparation of a wide variety of engineering drawings and plans.3. Ability to provide information and assistance to contractors, developers, engineers, and the general public on stormwater and floodplain inquires and activities; research policies, manuals, maps, easements, plans, and plats; ensure issues are resolved in a timely and efficient manner.4. Ability to receive citizen requests and inquires and confer with public to define and resolve stormwater and floodplain related issues and assist with public education and outreach efforts.5. Ability to assist Project Engineer with the preparation of reports related to substantial improvements and substantial damage reviews, disaster response efforts, and drainage concerns6. Ability to assist Project Engineer with the review of floodplain development permits for building permits and minor capital improvement projects.OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:7. Ability to manage the City's floodplain map repository for floodplain files and pertinent information including, but not limited to, floodplain maps, elevation certificate records, flood studies, and other FEMA data.8. Ability to assist Stormwater Fund Administrator with the maintenance of the stormwater impervious cover database in GIS.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge. Skills, and Abilities Required:* Knowledge of modern office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and their application to engineering administration and data management.* Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software.* General knowledge of surveying practices and procedures and surveying law.* Skill in making mathematical computations.* Skill in communication with other City employees and the public through oral and written means.* Ability to read and interpret field notes and construction specifications.* Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.* Ability to create clear, concise reports regarding engineering issues.* Ability to use independent judgment and make sound decisions.* Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to holding, seeing, calculating, and writing.* Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including, but not limited to PC, CAD, and calculator.* Ability to organize and coordinate materials, information, and resources associated with stormwater and* floodplain projects.* Ability to read topography maps and access drainage patterns and conditions* Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments.* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and be adaptable to change in support of engineering staff.Qualifying Education and Experience:Two years of college with course work in science, surveying, engineering, or mathematics plus two years related work experience, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Experience with a municipality preferred but not required. Must successfully complete required pre-employment screen which includes acriminal background check, motor vehicle record check and drug & alcohol testing. Possession of a valid Driver's License (Class C). Designation as a TFMA Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) is preferred, but not required.
