Nature and Scope
The Engineering Utilities Technician is responsible for ensuring continued reliable operation and maintenance of critical utility systems (high purity water, steam, compressed gases, etc.) that are used for the production of sterile pharmaceutical products. Interacts and communicates with the Facilities Engineer and critical utility system users including but not limited to: Production, Production Maintenance, Validation, Calibration and Facilities to relay information regarding the critical utility systems in real time. The technician will also conduct basic mechanical training for other employees (cross training) and serve as a resource for implementation of continuous improvement projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
* Execute and document preventive maintenance tasks (e.g. filter replacements, oil changes, lubrication, gasket replacement) per the maintenance schedule and applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices) guidelines.
* Execute and document corrective maintenance on an as-needed basis per applicable SOPs and cGMP guidelines.
* Troubleshoot equipment/system mechanical and electrical issues. (i.e., electrical circuits up to and including line voltage, basic control circuits down to component level and mechanical problems with utility systems including replacing controllers, drives, relays, motors, etc.).
* Interact with equipment and service vendors for troubleshooting, installation, improving reliability and/ or efficiency.
* Perform entry level process piping assignments using various materials (e.g. PVC/CPVC, carbon steel, copper, stainless steel) and joining techniques (solvent bonding, threading, compression, soldering, brazing, etc.).
* Read and interpret technical machine drawings (P&ID, GA, electrical schematic) and operation and maintenance manuals.
* Assist in the development of maintenance procedures, preventive, routine and predictive work instructions, training and troubleshooting manuals, protocols and corrective/preventive actions.
* Identify value added opportunities for continuous improvement in existing procedures, processes or equipment.
* Operate with correct safe working procedures and take necessary precautions on the job in order to prevent damage to equipment and property or injury to self or others.
* Identify, report, and recommend corrective action for any unsafe conditions to supervisor or department manager.
* Handle various chemicals used on the utility systems in a safe manner per SOPs.
* Participate in equipment installations.
* Assist with parts inventory and initiate parts requisitions.
Education Requirements and Qualifications
* High School Diploma or GED Equivalent, required. AA degree, technical diploma or applicable certifications, preferred.
* 1+ year experience in a maintenance or mechanical role, required.
* Relevant experience in a cGMP manufacturing working environment, preferred.
* Must be able to read and understand documents in Standard English such as Standard Operating Procedures, maintenance schedules and operating manuals, required.
* Ability to follow instructions and document activities as outlined in SOPs and work instructions, required. Ability to understand safety programs (e.g. Lock out / Tag out Program, line breaking), required.
* Basic Microsoft Office and Windows skills, required.
* Basic knowledge of small hand tools, required.
* Ability to enhance skills including, but not limited to, construction projects, plumbing lay out and installation, and electrical, required.
* Basic knowledge of pneumatics, solid state relays, and transformers, preferred.
* Basic knowledge of cGMP, preferred.
* Knowledge of utility systems, preferred.
* PLC operations, preferred.
* Must be flexible to work on multiple shifts and holidays. This position is part of a multi-shift operation and may require assignment to a regular off shift and/or weekends schedule. Being on call for maintenance emergencies is required.
* Ability to work overtime as needed.
Physical Environment and Requirements
* Employees must maintain a clean-shaven appearance each working shift to wear tight-fitting respirators properly.
* Physically able to wear protective gowning and equipment, including but not limited to gowning, goggles, face shields, respirators, and protective gloves. PPE and Respirators are essential for the health and safety of employees.
* Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for prolonged periods of time while fulfilling job duties.
Expected hourly range:
$32.94 - $36.05
