At the Y, you can discover your passion and a lifelong career helping to solve some of the nation's most pressing social issues.About the Job Under the supervision of the FRC Director, the Enhanced Visitation/Family Advocate (FA) is responsible for supporting the ongoing development and implementation of the Family Resource Center (FRC). The FA conducts intake and screening, provides appropriate information, and offers materials or referrals. The FA serves as a bridge between families and local service providers offering targeted family support programming. The FA assists clients in accessing resources through City agencies, local businesses, and cooperative and collaborative Community-Based Organizations. The FA will supervise visits with a minimum of 1 family per week (up to 6 hours), who are referred for Enhanced Visitation services through HSA. The FA will outreach at resource fairs, and develop, organize, and facilitate parent education classes and workshops. The FA will develop close working relationships with local organizations and maintain a database of local resources. The FA works as a team member with other FRC staff to ensure a holistic approach to family needs. Much time and energy is spent in case management approaches.This position is concerned with the delivery of services in the community. To this end, the FA must have the interpersonal skills to interact effectively with families identified as being at risk for abuse/neglect or out-of-home placement, as well as with other community resources that may assist the families. Case management skills, oral communication skills with families and youth, and the ability to clearly document outcomes and data per program protocols are all necessary. The FA adheres to all confidentiality procedures.Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree or equivalentAt least 1 year experience working with families and youth in one-on-one and group settings.Familiarity and experience in client interviewing, assessment, and service plan development.Familiarity and experience working in community-based agencies.Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated follow-through on tasks: multi-project/multi-task orientation.Must be able to work 8:30 am to 5 pm or 10:30 am to 7 pm Monday-Friday and some weekends as needed.Proven ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Professional demeanor, pleasant personality, and a sense of humor.Preferred Qualifications A Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or related field or equivalentFluency in Spanish/English or Cantonese/EnglishAll employees working with the YMCA are considered to have supervisory or disciplinary action relationships over minors.
