JOB DESCRIPTION:The S2S Facilitator plays a leadership role in implementing initiatives of the Afghan Refugee School Impact: Support to Schools Initiative (ARSI S2S) grant. A S2S Facilitator, an English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) certified teacher with experience working with the refugee population, serves as the school support resource for newly arriving refugee students and the liaison between students, parents and SCSD school staff.A S2S Facilitator manages the ENL Support Staff to develop, implement, and/or seek resources to support culturally relevant opportunities that meet the needs of newly arriving students and families, such as individual academic coaching, group academic coaching, family and student group events, parent orientations, and more. The S2S Facilitator works closely with ENL teachers, ENL support staff, the ENL intake team, Nationality Workers, school staff and Community Based Organizations to provide well rounded support.REPORTS TO: Supervising Director of ENL, World Languages and Bilingual EducationDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The S2S Facilitator will be responsible for fulfilling the following responsibilities:
  • Manage the program and staff at the ENL Welcome Academies for newly arriving students throughout the school year, utilizing the BRIA Welcome to Our Schools Curriculum
  • Oversee the development of the Welcome Academy curriculum and activities to meet the needs of the students
  • Provide technical support to the Refugee Academic Coaches and ENL Support Staff
  • Supervise the coordination of parent information and orientation sessions and training to families about topics such as school attendance, field trips, homework, parent/teacher conferences and child development
  • Manage group activities such as after-school clubs, tutoring and or social activities
  • Collaborate with school staff by answering questions, providing information and working together on topics involving refugee students such as academic performance, parent/family communication, health issues, cultural questions, behavioral concerns, special needs, prior experiences, service plans, and more
  • Facilitate frequent and effective home-school-community communication
  • Manage the required grant-related documentation and reporting
  • Collaborate with community-based organizations, students, school personnel, and parents
  • Perform other job-related duties, as assigned by the Supervising Director of ENL, World Languages and Bilingual Education
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum five (5) years of ENL teaching experience preferred
  • Experience multitasking and working on multiple initiatives
  • Experience overseeing staff and delegating responsibilities
  • Experience working with the refugee population in Syracuse preferred
  • Excellent organizational, communication and facilitation skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Prior demonstration of exemplary attendance is expected of any candidate for hire
  • Experience with building and maintaining culturally responsive learning environments that celebrate the diversity of the student population
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
  • All candidates must possess New York State ESOL PK-12 certification
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to work throughout the summer and extended days beyond contractual hours
SALARY/SALARY RANGE:
  • The current starting salary for SCSD Teachers is $53,000. With proof of outside related experience and college transcripts, the salary will be increased pursuant to the Unit 1 contractual agreement.
