Community Planning - Los Angeles, CA - Full TimeRincon Consultants is seeking enthusiastic Entry-Level Community Planners to join our growing team! If you're passionate about community planning, land use policy, and sustainable development, this is your chance to gain hands-on experience and build your career in environmental consulting. In this role, you'll assist with the preparation of General Plans, Specific/Master Plans, Housing Elements, Zoning Code updates, and land use analyses while also contributing to environmental compliance under CEQA guidelines by analyzing environmental impacts of planning and development projects.While this role may offer flexible work arrangements that can include a mix of in-office and remote work, our changing business needs will ultimately determine our level of remote-work flexibility. Additionally, to promote in-person collaboration and client teaming, we prioritize hiring those who reside within 50 miles of a Rincon office which currently includes: Carlsbad, Fresno, Los Angeles, Monterey, Oakland, Palm Springs, Riverside, Sacramento, San Luis Obispo, San Diego, San Jose, Santa Barbara, and Ventura. Please note, this position is listed for Ventura but may also be available at the various locations stated in this job description.Overview of Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist in preparing General Plans, Community Plans, Housing Elements, Specific/Master Plans, and other comprehensive planning documents under the guidance of experienced team members.
  • Support the development of zoning codes, permitting policies, and development standards, with a focus on housing and land use.
  • Conduct research and data analysis to develop recommendations on land use, housing, transportation, and community facilities to guide community development.
  • Collaborate with clients, agencies, and interdisciplinary teams to support project goals and ensure alignment with local regulations.
  • Assist in preparing CEQA documents to analyze environmental impacts resulting from planning and development projects.
  • Support the preparation, coordination, and facilitation of public involvement meetings, workshops, and consensus-building sessions to gather stakeholder input.
  • Review project plans and development proposals for consistency with local codes, policies, and regulations.
  • Assist in tracking assignments to help ensure deliverables are completed on time and within budget.
  • Perform site visits to gather information and support project development.
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the manager or project lead to support team and project needs.This Job Might Be For You If You Have The Following:
    • A BS/BA degree in urban planning, geography, environmental studies, or a related field.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write technical documents and deliver presentations.
    • A collaborative attitude and eagerness to learn from experienced planners and a multidisciplinary team.
    • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
    • An interest in land use planning, community development, housing policy, and/or environmental compliance processes (CEQA).
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with GIS or similar tools (preferred).
