Job SummaryThis is an entry level position in the performance of general maintenance and up keep of County facilities and property. An employee in this class is exposed to maintenance, general construction, special projects and assists in the maintenance of electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and related systems of County property. Duties are performed under general supervision of the Director of Property Maintenance. Must be able to work with Jail inmates and to adhere to the County Jail guidelines.Major Essential Duties
- Responsible for all general maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Assists with repairs of most types of walls, paints, and floor covering found in commercial and public buildings.
- Operates various interior and exterior type maintenance equipment, such as electrical tools, mowers, trimmers and blowers.
- Assists other Maintenance Technicians in daily work tasks.
- Clearing snow on walks and stairs during the winter as needed including salt spreading
Minor Essential Duties
- Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned
- On call 24 hours a day with the ability to participate on a rotating emergency pager schedule.
- May work overtime as required.
- Must be available and willing to attend training and/or seminars as provided by County.
RelationshipsThe Entry Level Maintenance Technician performs duties within the Property Maintenance Department under the direct supervision of the Director of Property Maintenance and/or senior staff.RequirementsQualifications
- Education and/or Experience
- Graduation from a standard high school or vocational school or the equivalency.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, procedures, equipment manuals, and safety documents
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure
- Solves practical problems
- Reading a ruler/measurements
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Possession of, or ability to obtain promptly, a Commonwealth of Kentucky motor vehicle operator's license
Other Knowledge and/or Skills
- Ability to trouble-shoot and handle minor general maintenance repairs
- Some knowledge of tools, chemicals, and appliances to keep system in good working condition
- Ability to take directives and follow through with supervision from the Director of Property Maintenance or Maintenance Technicians.
- Willingness to learn and train in the operation of department
- Ability to be adaptable to changing needs of the job
