Role description:

Arcadis is looking for an Entry-Level Traffic Engineer with interest in traffic engineering, intelligent transportation systems and traffic operations to join our Mobility Team in our Nashville Office. This position will assist our growing traffic and ITS group in managing Traffic Management Center (TMC) operations, perform operational analysis of traffic signals using microscopic simulation, and preparing traffic engineering plans for Traffic Signal and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) designs.

Location in Nashville, TN is required. Candidates will have the ability to work remotely or in the Arcadis office but will also be required to report in person to a Traffic Management Center (TMC) part time.

Role accountabilities:

As a Traffic Engineer you will work in a dynamic operational setting, prioritizing public safety for all roadway users. This role involves supporting first responders, emergency management, and law enforcement by utilizing Intelligent Transportation Systems equipment to manage incidents and enhance travel time, safety, and service quality for motorists. You will be responsible for operating and managing traffic management devices like CCTV cameras and Dynamic Message Signs to monitor arterial and interstate systems. Utilizing various software applications, you will control ITS field devices, analyze traffic flow, and conduct data analysis.

As a Traffic Engineer you will carry out engineering design tasks related to Traffic Signals, Signing/Pavement Marking, and Intelligent Transportation Systems including:

* Monitor traffic signal and system operations, corridor congestion, and traffic flow using advanced traffic management systems, travel time monitoring, and CCTV cameras.

* Promptly respond to incidents by dispatching personnel, aiding first responders with location information, and notifying the public.

* Collaborate with senior transportation engineers to develop and implement optimized signal timing plans.

* Develop traffic simulation models using platforms like Synchro, VISSIM, and Sidra.

* Research and implement smart infrastructure and Connected and Automated Vehicle (CAV) technologies in transportation programs and corridors.

* Engage in drafting assignments using software such as MicroStation and/or OpenRoads to create engineering documents, figures, and incorporate engineer's markups.

Work will normally consist of indoor controlled-climate work environment. Occasional field trips or site visits may be required along with working alternate work schedules and be on-call as necessary. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods Must be able to travel and be physically present at a TMC independently. Candidate should be located in or willing to relocate to Nashville, TN.

Qualifications & Experience:

Required Qualifications:

* B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field from accredited university

* 0-2 years of traffic engineering experience post-graduation.

* U.S. Driver's License is required

Preferred Qualifications:

* Engineer-in-Training (EIT) Certification or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE).

* Previous TMC Operations experience

* Customer service experience - Skills in interpersonal relationships and ability to work well within a diverse group

* Ability to take calls, dispatch on radio or telephone, and otherwise clearly communicate information over a radio system or network in a clear and concise manner

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

* Experience/ familiarity with MicroStation, OpenRoads, Synchro, VISSIM and/or Sidra

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $52,000 - $78,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
