Immediate need for a Sr EHS Manager for an industrial manufacturer about 45 minutes north of Syracuse. Great compensation, benefits, and an excellent relocation package!

Position Overview

This position is responsible for the management of an effective loss prevention program and environmental management at the manufacturing plant. The primary purpose of the position is to minimize financial risk through injury/illness prevention, worker's compensation/disability management, fire protection management, and assuring the law-abiding operation of the manufacturing plant and minimization of environmental liabilities.

The major role of the job is to develop and maintain an effective loss prevention attitude in management, supervision and the work force. Another important challenge is to effectively coordinate activities and communication between the Safety, Medical, Fire Protection, Environmental and Operating Groups. Representing the plant in negotiations with local, state and federal government agencies concerning permitting, consent orders and settlement agreements.

With the defined areas of responsibility, the Health/Safety and Environmental Manager has considerable freedom to act, thus must use good judgment in prioritizing the position s workload. The position requires high degree of interpersonal skills in acquiring agreement and action to resolve safety and environmental problems with the plant and in negotiations with local, state and federal agencies. This role is also responsible for ensuring that the annual safety metrics devised by NA EH&S Management are adhered to, and occupies a prominent role in the plant management team, reporting to the Plant Manager.

Responsibilities

Investigates accidents with leaders, makes plant safety inspections and assists in correction of problems

Coordinates and/or performs training of personnel in fire protection and safety/health related items

Coordinates all visits of federal, state and insurance inspectors and follows up on their recommendations

Recognizing and evaluating those situations where potential exposures may be harmful to employees and/or are beyond legal limits and to maintain required documentation.

Managing the fire protection aspects in the plant and responding to requests from other locations.

Develops and maintains contact with federal, state and private agencies to ensure current knowledge of safety/health/fire protection laws and medical standards

Investigating environmental problems, and ensuring that corrective and preventive actions are assigned and performed

Inspecting waste recycling/disposal facilities used by the manufacturing plant. Based on these inspections, makes recommendations as to which facilities should be used to minimize exposure to environmental liability

Prepares documents required by Federal and State law in the environmental pollution control arena. Penalties for violating regulations can result in fines ranging from $1,500 to $50,000 per day

Represents the facility on the County Solid Waste Board and the Business Council of NY Environmental Committee

Qualifications

Bachelor s Degree Required

o Preferred Degree in Occupational Safety or Health or a related scientific discipline with several years experience in manufacturing operation

Requires a thorough, in depth knowledge of all local, state and federal laws and regulations related to areas of responsibility

A high level of effectiveness in human relations skills and ability to clearly communicate is necessary and will often determine the extent to which the principal accountabilities will be met.

Must be a self-starter able to work independently and also work with all levels of the workforce to help provide them with information to run the business

Excellent communication (oral and written) skills; ability to communicate with all levels in the organization

In-depth knowledge of manufacturing process and business policy and practices

Desire to take initiative and develop a pro-active relationship with employees through follow-up, understanding their needs and fostering a collaborative relationship

Ability to organize and prioritize workload; must be able to manage multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail

Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment
