Typical Functions:
- Monitor and help to maintain the plant operation and maintenance in compliance with all federal, state, county and local operating permits.
- Monitor and maintain facility environmental compliance with all permits, requirements, and regulations (including RCRA, EPCRA, TSCA, CAA, CWA, DOT, etc.).
- Responsible for Title V air permit compliance including monitoring, recordkeeping, reporting and other requirements for the coke plant and the terminal.
- Responsible for maintaining compliance with all water permits, including water withdrawal, NPDES and stormwater permits, as applicable.
- Help to develop and implement policies and procedures necessary to meet requirements of plant environmental policies, and federal, state, county or local environmental regulations.
- Regular inspections of all waste handling areas
- Handling, preparing for shipment, and shipping waste streams generated by the site, including used oil, universal wastes, trash, etc, and coordinating with personnel on waste disposal requirements
- Managing oil and chemical storage areas (secondary containment, oily waters, labeling, storage)
- Regular monitoring and re-filling of all spill kits
- Inspection of all universal waste storage containers to ensure compliance, including shipping of containers as needed
- Twice-weekly site inspections to determine overall site RCRA compliance
- Assistance with spill and emergency response, clean-up measures and regulatory interaction where needed
- Weekly review of all environmental related PMs, and follow up to any items noted as required
- Management of the site training processes, including the onboarding of new employees, job specific qualification and certification, and annual regulatory compliance.
- Assist with internal and external audits, including the correction of related findings/gaps
- Assist in the development of the monthly SSEP Scorecard and Performance Metrics.
- Coordinate and assist with the monitoring of all plant environmental compliance, programs, issues, and results. Assist plant operations in developing, monitoring, and instituting programs and procedures to ensure environmentally sound and legal operation and maintenance of the facility.
- Conduct facility inspections on a specified basis and conduct or assist with conducting all necessary sampling, monitoring and coordination to ensure that site environmental obligations are met.
- Review environmental records for completeness and accuracy and maintain the environmental record-keeping system. Assist with drafting and draft, review, and submit required environmental reports.
- Act as environmental support to plant operations on environmental and regulatory issues. Conduct and participate in incident investigations and root cause failure analysis.
- Collect and review environmental data for annual sustainability reporting.
Work Environment/Requirements:
- Works setting ranges from office to extreme outdoor conditions.
- Must have effective oral communication and presentation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and evaluate technical data and communicate results in layman's terms; proficiency in technical and creative writing; proficiency in Microsoft Software and extensive internet search capabilities; strong interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail a must.
Education Requirements / Work Experience:
- A. degree in Engineering, Science or related field of study with a minimum of 5 years work experience in analysis of health and safety regulations as applied to the mining, construction, manufacturing, or related fields. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to work with others to accomplish tasks, and working knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs.
