Job Announcement
The Office of Environmental and Energy Coordination (OEEC) seeks a dynamic and innovative environmental professional or planner to develop and lead community programs that support implementation of the Community-wide Energy and Climate Action Plan (CECAP) and Resilient Fairfax, the county's climate adaptation and resilience plan. Works collaboratively with county agencies, non-profit organizations, businesses, residents, and community-based organizations to coordinate and advance effective, equitable climate action and sustainability programs like Green Business Partners, Energy Conservation Assistance, among others.Roles and responsibilities include:
- Develops, grows and leads community engagement plans and programs that promote and advance climate action in collaboration with county agencies, residents, community organizations, businesses, non-profits, and other stakeholders;
- Provides leadership and directs the work of a team from within and outside of the OEEC to include county agency, partners, and consultants;
- Supervises administrative and technical staff as directed by the division manager;
- Monitors program progress to achieve countywide goals and policies related to implementation of climate action plans;
- Works with management to prioritize programs, develop budgets and prepare and present to elected officials, senior county management and executives.
- Assesses and reports on climate, energy and environmental policy, legislation, programs and activities;
- Works with nonprofit entities, regional planning organizations, and other partners to further county environmental goals and policies;
- Manages and responds to inquiries from interest groups and the public.

Employment Standards

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university in a planning related field; plus five years of experience in a planning-related field.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in and knowledge of energy and climate action program development and implementation including but not limited to areas such as greenhouse gas emissions, strategies and actions to achieve carbon neutral goals in key sectors such as building energy, renewable energy, and transportation or climate resilience;
- Progressive experience developing and/or managing community-facing programs and projects.
- Experience with programs and projects working in collaboration with a variety of partners including county agencies, residents, community organizations, businesses, non-profits, and other stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in managing projects, including overseeing internal and external team members, administering project budgets and grants, and ensuring project deadlines are met.
- Experience in developing and implementing strategic and annual work plans as they relate to environmental and energy programs and goals.
- Two-years experience working in a local government environment including work with elected officials.
- Ability to apply principles of leadership, creative problem solving, collaboration, decision making, and team building.
- Experience with GIS mapping and analysis.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Employee may be required to lift or carry up to 15 pounds. This position is primarily sedentary in nature; however, employee must be sufficiently mobile to attend meetings and make presentations. Visual acuity to work on electronic equipment such as a computer monitor or smartphone and the ability to type on a keyboard.
