Job Description BAE Systems is seeking an Environmental Engineer to join its organization.
You will work under the direction of an experienced product environmental engineer to support the design for the environment by influencing design to ensure proper parts materials and processes are selected and specified to achieve the environmental engineering and pollution prevention objectives for a given program.
The goal is to minimize impact on human health and the environment.
Responsibilities:
* Influence design selections, coordinates and implements pollution prevention and sustainability initiatives early on during the product development phase.
* Work with materials engineers and other subject matter experts to identify alternatives to toxic or hazardous materials and assist in evaluation of materials and processes either by analysis and/or physical testing.
* Provide expertise on matters involving environmental and contractual compliance, evaluation and control of issues that may impact air quality, water quality, non-hazardous and hazardous waste disposal, and hazardous material usage.
* Ensures technical deliverables are consistent with contractual requirements, regulatory requirements and follows engineering principles and company practices.
* Perform analysis to identify potential environmental hazards in design and eliminates or mitigates these hazards through collaboration with the program team for design influence, and the development of appropriate controls.
* Provide documented environmental hazard analyses, design recommendations, risk assessments, and support until closure of identified environmental risks.
* Prepare and present simple project technical results and recommendations to customers, internal and external design teams, and internal management.
* Participate in formal technical reviews with customers.
* Reviewing engineering drawings and material specifications for the presence of hazardous materials and be familiar with engineering design and approval process is preferred.
* Identifying and evaluating suitable non-hazardous alternatives and working with materials engineering, vendors and suppliers to identify products with equivalent or superior performance qualities.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
* Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Industrial engineering, or a related science degree
* Proficiency in manipulating and analyzing data in multiple sources and formats (Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point, Access or Oracle Database experience
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
* Familiar with hazardous substances and chemicals for the evaluation of materials
* Familiar with MIL-STD-882E, NAS411 and NAS411-1 Specifications
* Familiar with IS14001 Environmental Management System
* Experience interpreting chemical Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $61820 - $105050
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
