Environmental, Health & Safety Manager Job Description
The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining processes to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations. This leadership role focuses on creating a safe and sustainable workplace by adhering to local, state, and federal regulations and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The EHS Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement effective policies, provide training, and monitor performance metrics.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental, Health, and Safety Leadership:
- Develop, implement, and manage EHS policies, procedures, and programs.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations.
- Provide guidance on sustainability efforts, including waste reduction, energy conservation, and resource optimization.
- Conduct compliance audits and ensure accurate reporting for hazardous waste, air and water quality, and toxic release inventories.
- Oversee and analyze injury and illness investigations, identifying trends and driving corrective actions.
Facility-Specific Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and lead safety committees and emergency response teams.
- Conduct risk assessments for processes and equipment, identifying potential hazards and implementing controls.
- Manage lockout/tagout, confined space, hot work, and emergency response programs.
- Ensure the effectiveness of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 compliance and certification programs.
- Facilitate training for employees and contractors to ensure EHS awareness and compliance.
Process Improvement:
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track EHS performance.
- Conduct periodic safety drills, including fire, natural disaster, and spill response scenarios.
- Manage the review and approval of new chemicals and maintain the safety data sheet (SDS) database.
- Implement measures to improve safety culture and operational sustainability.
General Duties:
- Ensure timely submission of all required reports and documentation.
- Serve as a point of contact for regulatory agencies and auditors.
- Provide regular updates to leadership on EHS performance and initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety or a related field preferred.
- Associate's degree in a relevant field or equivalent education and experience acceptable.
- 10 years of experience in EHS program administration preferred.
- 5 years of experience in EHS program administration and technical training required.
- 8 years of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- 2 years of experience in a regulated manufacturing environment (e.g., ISO) required.
- Proficient knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Proven ability to gather, analyze, and report data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
