Title: Water Treatment Plant Operator / Water Systems Operator (WSO)Duration: 12 monthsLocation: Red Hill Construction Site in Hawaii: near 99-902 Moanalua Rd Aiea, HI 96701** Must hold a WSO Certification - this is held at the State level - if candidate doesn't hold one for Hawaii, please advise if the current certification as reciprocity with Hawaii.** Water Treatment experience must be Fresh Water (vs. Waste Water)Key responsibilities:* Oversite of operations and maintenance of a conventional water treatment plant - testing for fresh, drinkable water* Develop training and maintenance plans* Oversite of sub-contractor's technicians to ensure compliance* Technical Writing skills are required for operational plansPosition OverviewThe Water Treatment Plant Operator 1 works under the supervision of the Operations Manager, responsible for operation and maintenance of a conventional water treatment system.ResponsibilitiesThis position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.Operate, monitor, maintain and repair conventional water treatment/distribution systems, including but not limited to wells, pumps, water catchments and storage systems, water filtration treatment plants, distribution piping, valves, flow control devices, taps, line stops, backflows, chlorination/dichlorination, leak detection and analyzersConduct scheduled preventative maintenance as well as unscheduled maintenance (Fault Repair)Conduct daily operations and maintenance inspections of assigned areas such as checking chemical feed systems, water collection and storage sites, water filtration treatment plants, and facility distribution system components.Collect and record periodic systems readings such as flow rates, system pressure, analyzer/sensor & meter readings etc.Adjusts Water Plant equipment, ensuring operational guidelines are followed and are incompliance with all federal, state and US Navy guidelines.Familiar with operations of the adsorption system and reviews its operation at least every two weeks to ensure the system is maintained in a manner appropriate to produce water fit for human consumption.Responds to Water Plant emergencies with appropriate immediate and subsequent actions.Ensures efficient and economical operation of station water production equipment.Maintains logs as required.Implements and maintains a safe workplace program, ensuring safety is the highest priority.On-site representative for the project team, serves as the eyes and ears of the companyAs a member of the Project team, responsible for the implementation and of site safety, quality and compliance.Correctly document and report supported activities.As needed develop plans, and written processes related to the operations and maintenance of the Water Treatment system as well as any required operator and or staff training programs.Minimum Qualifications:Education/Certifications: One-year of related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if a degree is required.High School diploma; Associates or Bachelors degree preferred.2 years of Water Treatment Plant or related technical school preferred.Valid drivers license with a clean traffic abstract.Experience:2+ years of recent work-related experience in water distribution systems or water treatment plants preferred.Current Hawaii Water Treatment Plant Operator (WTPO) Certification Required Grade 1 or higher.Skills:Must be able to read, write and speak the English languageAble to perform mathematical calculations.Mechanically inclined and competent using with hand-held tools.Electrical background a plus.Must be able to clear background checks for access to secure work sites.Computer proficiency with email, work processing, and MS Office Suite.Able and willing to perform other duties as needed, as skills and program allow.Other Requirements:The worker is subject environmental conditions, heat, rain, wind. Activities occur inside and outside. The worker may be subject to extreme heat. Temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour. The worker is subject to noise. There may be sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level. The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. Light work. Exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work may require heavy lifting, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, and prolonged sitting.
