AP Rochester has partnered with a local manufacturer in search of a Safety & Environmental Specialist. The Safety & Environmental Specialist will act as a technical resource, ensuring the company adheres to Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) standards. The primary responsibility is to implementand maintain a robust EHS management system across the entire manufacturing campus. This role involves both individual and cross-functional team efforts to drive continuous improvement.
This position is a direct hire, full-time role that requires a local Rochester, NY candidate.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop, update, and implement EHS procedures. Coordinate and follow up on EHS audits.
- Respond to EHS incidents promptly. Investigate EHS injury and incident reports and implement preventative measures.
- Coordinate and document job hazard analyses.
- Manage hazardous and industrial waste storage, transportation, and disposal.
- Serve as a liaison with regulatory agencies (OSHA, NYSDEC, US EPA, etc.).
- Maintain the OSHA 300 log of workplace injuries and illnesses, and submit the annual OSHA 300a report and post it in all required locations.
- Develop and maintain the Emergency Action Plan, including facility maps, procedures, and training/drills for the campus.
- Recruit Emergency Response Team (E-Team) volunteers and maintain First Aid, AED, CPR, and Narcan training programs. Maintain permits for fire alarm systems through the local Fire Prevention Office.
- Ensure accessible and appropriate First Aid and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) supplies, including a PPE vending service.
- Provide EHS training for new employees and necessary refresher training for all employees (e.g., emergency evacuation, bloodborne pathogens, hazard communication, Lockout-Tagout, electrical safety, ergonomics).
- Coordinate Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) and Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) training for designated employees.
- Conduct workplace noise surveys as needed to identify hearing protection zones. Coordinate annual hearing tests, conservation training, and follow-up for designated employees through qualified providers.
- Maintain certification in 49 CFR 172 Hazmat Ground Shipping and 6 NYCRR Hazardous Waste Management, NYSDEC Air Emissions Registration Permits, waste generator registration with USEPA/NYSDEC, biennial MSC-150 registration with US DOT and training records for DOT drivers.
- Assist in preparing sustainability and social compliance assessments, including waste/emissions estimates and other EHS metrics.
EDUCATION
- High school diploma, G.E.D, or equivalent required
- Associate's degree is preferred.
EXPERIENCE
- 3+ years of experience in safety administration within a manufacturing environment required
