Job Summary:

As a Health and Safety Specialist with the Pennsylvania Office of Administration, you will collaborate with Commonwealth agencies to ensure compliance with safety programs, working proactively to reduce workplace injuries and create safer environments. This role offers telework flexibility but requires travel to sites throughout Pennsylvania, including locations without public transportation and periodic full days in an office setting. A strong background in industrial hygiene is essential, as this position leads investigations and conducts training across various agencies, including close coordination with the Department of Corrections and smaller agencies such as the Game Commission.

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Management: Supervise and guide an on-site safety professionals.
  • Industrial Hygiene: Conduct investigations and prepare detailed reports on industrial hygiene matters, developing and delivering associated training as needed.
  • Project Coordination: Plan, organize, and manage service requests to meet target deadlines and production goals, using agency action plans to assign responsibilities, set timelines, and track progress.
  • Health & Safety Training Development: Create and deliver health and safety training materials, either by adapting existing resources or developing new content as necessary, conducting training in-person or through webinars to accommodate agency needs.
  • Safety Audits & Compliance: Perform assessments and audits in line with the Accident and Illness Prevention Program (AIPP) and agency policies, which includes hazard identification, incident investigations, and AIPP compliance reviews.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Analyze injury data and trends to identify root causes, recommend corrective actions, and produce technical reports tailored to agency needs.
  • Injury/Illness Prevention & Safety Support: Assist agency safety coordinators or designees in ensuring AIPP completion, conducting annual reviews, and implementing updates as needed.
  • Independent & Collaborative Support: Work independently to provide on-site health and safety support, performing technical research, and sharing knowledge through reports, emails, or verbal communication.
  • Client Relationship Management: Foster strong relationships with agency personnel across all levels, providing exceptional customer service to understand and address their needs, and supporting a proactive safety culture within each agency.

Experience:

  • At least 5 years of professional experience in industrial hygiene and/or occupational safety.
  • Strong skills in assessment, communication (verbal and written), and technical reporting.
  • Excellent organizational and follow-up abilities to meet project deadlines and client expectations.
  • Flexibility to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team environment.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field, or any bachelors degree combined with a PA L&I BWC AIPP Qualification.

Other Requirements:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Ability to pass Pennsylvania Department of Corrections background check for facility access.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of standing and walking
  • Extended period of working via computer | Sitting for extended periods of time
