Salary : $48,293.00 - $49,500.00 AnnuallyLocation : Louisburg, NCJob Type: Full TimeJob Number: 202200148Department: HealthOpening Date: 01/04/2024General Statement of Duties This is a professional environmental health position dedicated to the promotion of public health through education, surveillance, consultation, inspection, and enforcement of state, local and federal environmental health laws, and regulations. Specific duties may include evaluation, inspection and permitting of on-site (septic) wastewater systems and drinking water wells, and, conduction of sanitation inspections of food, lodging, child day care, tattoo, public swimming pool, and institutional facilities. Duties may also include investigation of environmental health complaints that may require enforcement action and evaluation of environmental lead exposure in housing of children with elevated blood lead levels. Employees will have office duties involving telephone or written correspondence with the public, completion of reports and permits, and attendance at various local or state meetings and workshops. This position's primary responsibility is in the on-site waste-water section. Duties and Responsibilities/Knowledge, Skills, AbilitiesWorking knowledge of environmental health laws, rules, and procedures, as well as a complete understanding of the concepts of public heath law. Practical knowledge of microbiology, biology, chemistry, food science, epidemiology, soil science, entomology, and basic engineering technology as applied to environmental health practices. General knowledge of community resources. Working knowledge of the responsibilities of other agencies involved in environmental health work. Working knowledge of the interrelationship between socio-economic factors and environmental health concerns. Working knowledge of the design of on-site waste water treatment systems, food sanitation, food borne diseases, communicable diseases, vector control, protection of water supplies, solid waste management, and institutional sanitation. Working knowledge of inspection methods and investigation techniques as applied in environmental health. Ability to analyze and comprehend a wide variety of technical and administrative regulations, records, and reports. Ability to exercise sound judgement and deal tactfully with a wide range of public contracts while enforcing public health laws and regulations. Ability to motivate and educate business and property owners and the consuming public in matters related to protecting and promoting public health. Ability to present formal environmental health training programs. Ability to develop and express ideas and opinions concisely, comprehensively, and clearly in oral and written from. Ability to independently plan and schedule work activities. Ability to apply environmental health knowledge and techniques in the investigation of environmental health problems. Desirable Education and Experience Graduation from a four-year college or university with 30 semester hours of course work in the physical or biological sciences and two years of experience in environmental health; or a four-year or a master's degree in environmental health from a program which is accredited by the National Accreditation Council for Environmental Health Curricula of the National Health Association and one year of experience in environmental health. Interns will be considered.Must be registered as a Sanitarian by the North Carolina State Board of Sanitarian Examiners Required ImmunizationsThe following are immunizations that we require for all employees prior to the first date of employment:Two step TST (skin test) If you have had a negative TST within the last 12 months, you must have another one completed prior to employment.Proof of MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) immunity: You must have documentation of two doses of measles, mumps and rubella given at least 28 days apart or laboratory evidence of immunity or laboratory confirmation of disease.Hepatitis B series: Either evidence of 3 doses; signed declination form or lab evidence of immunityEvidence of Tdap vaccineEvidence of varicella immunity: You must have documentation of two doses of varicella given at least 28 days apart or a history of varicella or herpes zoster based on physician diagnosis or laboratory evidence of immunity or laboratory confirmation of disease. f working in the lab, must have documented proof of one dose of meningococcal vaccinewithin three years of hire date.
