Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Health (VDH), Office of Drinking Water (ODW), is seeking an Environmental Health Technical Specialist to act as the non-community waterworks program supervisor and join the Lexington Field Office team! This position is located in Lexington and will assist in ensuring safe drinking water for citizens in the Lexington Field Office service area. Under Section 32.1-167-176 of the Code of Virginia and the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) is required to provide safe drinking water regulations. This position performs surveillance and sanitary surveys; reviews operating reports; investigates consumer complaints. The incumbent will prepare notices of alleged violation and initiate enforcement actions. Technical aspects of the job include managing databases, chemical analyses review, and providing technical assistance and training to waterworks owners and operators. The position will also serve as the non-community waterworks program supervisor and subject matter expert for the Lexington Field Office.

Minimum Qualifications
* Working knowledge of drinking water regulations, project management, and knowledge of technology associated with provision of drinking water.
* Ability to perform independent research, develop analytical results from independent data sources.
* Present information directly and clearly to both technical and public audiences.
* Ability to interpret and evaluate federal and state regulations to address public meetings.
* Ability to interpret technical documents.
* Ability to work with stakeholders (Technical Assistance providers or small waterworks).
* Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Additional Considerations
* Considerable experience in environmental health or environmental science or a related field (geology, biology, chemistry), or equivalent experience.
* Considerable experience as a Waterworks Operator by the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation.
