Total Safety is looking for Environmental Laborers to join their safety conscious team! The Environmental Laborer should have experience relating to waste management (RCRA) and wastewater issues. The individual is responsible for waste segregation, routine visual inspections of waste containers and their contents and storage of waste. Such as small construction and demolition waste. He/she should also understand basic housekeeping requirements and safe waste handling. The individual must be knowledgeable of federal and state waste regulations, waste minimization and aware of proper and safe lifting practices. Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Must be self-starter and obtain good communication skills enabling Labor Crew to consult with client environmental, turnaround, or operations personnel. This individual will receive direction/guidance from Environmental Techs.QualificationsEducation and Experience:High school diploma or GED plus ARSC (Association of Reciprocal Safety Councils) Basic Orientation Plus and client-site specific safety orientation. Prefer an experience in a field such as industrial hygiene, environmental sciences, or safety. Required Licenses or Specific Training:
- Environmental must have completed 40-hour HAZWOPER, RCRA, Basic Plus. Additional training may be required depending on client- or project-specific requirements and/or company policies.
- Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) required. Background screening may require NABSC (North American Background Screening Consortium), or other graded background program. Drug and alcohol screening according to DISA, NASAP (North American Substance Abuse Program), or other corporate policy. Fit For Duty medical examination and respirator fit test required. Must have a valid driver license.
Physical Demands
- This position requires 100% of outdoor walking and lifting not to exceed 50 lbs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. Uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Must be able to climb ladders, walk over rough ground, and work in confined spaces. Must be physically able to operate the equipment used for the job (calibrators, direct reading gas meters, and other standard or specialized IH instrumentation) and be physically able to wear a safety equipment as appropriate (such as fall protection system and respirator without limitations). Must also be able to wear personal protective equipment, including fire-retardant clothing, steel-toed shoes/boots, gloves, earplugs, hardhat, safety glasses, or other protective equipment as appropriate for work site.
